p0741 code help or london mechanic to fix

p 0741 torque converter clutch circuit performance / stuck off
hi all , 2001 e46 155,000 miles. so few years ago got an 048 transmission code and thought thats it game over. Was then told an air leak can cause this code. Leaking rocker gasket fixed no code again - great!
The other day noticed newer oil leak and it's coming from front of engine , yet to be determined where. Local mechanic cleaned it all up with brake cleaner so we can try and find the leak source.
Car drives great little bit of hunting on start up.
Next day drove 20 odd miles and the p0741 code came up on my cheapo OBD.
is this the same as an 048?
Ive also noticed a low pitch whine last few months, near transmission area/back of engine , goes up/ down with rpms
Could this also be caused by oil leak / possible air leak?
I understand that the clutch locks up at higher speeds and is not performing right or stuck off. One search showed that its perhaps not the end of the world ( if it is a torque issue not air) as you would just see poorer MPG. BUT that the pressure regulator valve should be changed as this could have caused the problem and this will eventually wreck the transmission.any other smaller initial fixes ? is there a seal? torque converter lock up clutch?
Cant really afford a newer car but cant put thousands into this.
Any info appreciated , what to look , could be , and what happens short term if I still drive the car. Gently - city driving some 40/50mph cruising
thanks

I have the same code on my Mokka, it usually means the pressure is not holding the clutch in top gear, locking out as it should, general concensous seems it needs a rebuild.hi all , 2001 e46 155,000 miles. so few years ago got an 048 transmission code and thought thats it game over. Mine is a 1500 quid car, I bought with the fault, it is intermittent, I just have a cheapo reader perma connected, and delete code, could be 5 minutes, could be 3 days, but it comes back eventually.
Changing the very black fluid helped, but not cured it
