Floyd, Queen, Stones, Beatles, maybe U2?
Swap Queen and the Stones, and I think that would be spot on. I think Floyd will always appeal to every generation, so I reckon they would be the biggest. Probably will be some no-name group who have been artificially lobbed into the charts though!
oops..bnever saw the |Beatles... They will batter all of them put together probably!

Jagger is a shrewd operator. the manager even more so. Remember the Windows 'Start me up' Campaign? that netted them a whole lotta dosh.
U2 split all their money evens apparently.
Phil Collins earns loads for some reason, as does Sting and David Bowie.
Peter Gabriel once went bankrupt, which is scandalous but his studio is one of the best in the world and he has just made a new deal which should work out nicely.
John Williams must be worth a few sacks of nuts and don't forget some of the American's like Dre.
BUT it is all small change compared to the movie biz.
Music industry is actually pretty small compared to the amount of media generated. more money in every day commodoties.
You ask a drunken Q?. Expect a rambled answer.

The Stones were top of our list due to mucho touring and also being aoroung for ever and a day.
The long livety thing must be important and also a reason why I doubt U2, REM etc would be up there as just not being able to catch up?
The beatles I think, would have made most money when there wasn't as much money in it?
Also surely the US thing must come in to it? ie, having to "make it" over there to make any real money?
Migh this then include say The Beach Boys or the Eageles?
Dunno, but still drunk!

The really rich bastids are the singer/songwriters of a group. It's usual for the lyricyst (sic) to take 50% of the writing - and get mechanicals for 'playing' too.
So that put Jagger in a prime spot.
But chickenfeed in comparison to....
Mr P Mac scouse git. loads of folk covering his gear

Yes? YES?? As in: Owner of a lonely heart?
They mmust have made all of forty bob between them, surely?
Yes are still recording and Touring (unfortunately) my uncle raves about them and sings their songs at every opportunity.
Went to see them last year
Not exactly a chart-topping singles band, 20-min instrumentals don't really appeal to the average 12-year-old.

Actually, the wealthy ones are the smart ones. It doesn't matter if you're the songwriter, producer, maanger, its your skills in negotiating the contract.
Floyd were broke after DSOTM cos their manager ripped them off, but they took extreme control of their own finances from there, and made a forture.
