Folks have a 2019 XC90 which they are taking through europe next month and looking to change the LED headlight beam pattern.

Followed the usual manual instructions of Press Settings in the top view in the centre display. Press My Car → Lights and Lighting → Exterior Lights. Select Temporary Right Hand Traffic/Temporary Left Hand Traffic.

However there is no sub menu to allow the selection of temporary RHD/LHD.

I have also read while googling that as the beam pattern is flat there is no need to adjust ? hence no sub menu for you to adjust ?

Anyone came across this ?

I came across similar when searching info for my 68 plate XC60 - i.e. there is no menu option.

I asked my Volvo dealer and they said it wasn't a concern, but didn't offer any reasoning, Checking the light pattern against a wall showed it was pretty flat. I hope the French police are clued up - I would assume they are.

What's even more annoying is the Volvo website on this matter is pretty inconclusive. The XC60 isn't mentioned. For the XC90 it seems the menu option is only applicable if you have adaptive headlamps. Its a bit vague if you have the standards LEDs.

But your car is permanently RHD wherever you are driving it.

LHT is for the continent.

RHT is for UK/RHD countries.

Sounds like it enables the opposite side to whatever the original vehicle configuration is. Perhaps the wording could be a bit clearer.

No, like I said above it has no bearing on whether the car is LHD or RHD.

That way they make the lights& control the same whether the car is for a LHD or RHD market.

If the oncoming traffic is on your Right it is RHT.

If the oncoming traffic is on your Left it is LHT.

It does in the context of the functionality. If it's LHD, it changes the exterior lighting functionality to RHD, if RHD to LHD.

But it doesn't change it to the opposite side, it just changes side.

If the car is LHD.
LHT means Left Hand Traffic, RHT means Right Hand Traffic.

If the car is RHD.
LHT means Left Hand Traffic, RHT means Right Hand Traffic.

Can you see the pattern?

They are not opposite, they are the same.

I've got a Dec 2018 RHD XC90, which I've brought with me to a new life in Portugal. I'd like to re-register the car here, but (despite assurances from Volvo UK & Volvo Portugal) it seems the headlights do NOT automatically adjust and the car will not pass the necessary 'matriculation' test.

I'm told that whilst it's an easy matter to switch the rear foglight bulb from right to left, I need to get replacement LHD headlights fitted at an exorbitant cost of >5,500 Euros! Does anyone know of a way around this?

The headlights would never (AFAIK) automatically adjust although with many (have no idea on yours) these days it is a simple selector either on the light itself or in the car settings.
