More of a JLR reliability problem than an EV problem?

Hmmm...M58, M57, then finally stopped on the M62. All with no brakes. Remarkable.

So does an electric car just keep on going if you take your foot off the throttle? If not, could they not have just done that?

Could’ve waited until it ran out of battery

Jokes aside that must be a scary situation, surely there must be a mechanism where you can switch it off without having to resort to calling the police to box you in.

It’s not a great advert for JLR or EVs regardless. (It probably is a rare occurrence but adds ammunition to the anti-EV side of the EV debate)

Motorcycles have kill switches.

That looks more likely slowed to a halt from the police car in front rather than "rammed."

Can't you just turn EVs off and roll to a stop/engage handbrake a lower speed? I've never driven one so don't know. Assume it was complete brake failure as jamming on the brakes on an ICE car will still stop it even if it was somehow stuck in forward momentum.

Cars have a stop button too. Obviously more to this than a kill/stop switch

This is the M58 / M57 junction - good going to do that at any speed, and then carry on for the entire length of the M57.

All seems a bit suspect. Adaptive cruise got stuck on maybe, at the same time the brakes failed?

I thought if you lifted off the accelerator it started braking, or it did with the one I drove a few years ago where I was having to brake as I didn't want to get rammed by a car behind who didn't realse I was coasting.... although I'm happy to be corrected.

Depends on how much (if any) regen braking you have selected.

Coincidentally I watched an episode of Wheeler Dealers with an Audi RS6 with a engine runaway problem.

According to a poster in the iPace thread this same driver and car had previously had the same problem.

That is terrible, never heard of the brakes on a ICE car ever failing, this is a truly terrifying development...
