Hello all

For a 2000 BMW E38 735i with the M62 engine, what engine oil is recommended please? It does mostly short journeys. Mileage is around 130k (I think!).

thank you in advance

Any LL04 spec 5W30 or 5W40 with a decent filter (Mann, Mahle, Hengst, BMW)

Ignore the snake oil promises. Just make sure it meets the BMW specs and keeping it fresh is what's paramount. So change it yearly

I ran 5W40 in my higher miles E39 M54s and 5w30 in my Japanese import 540i Sport saloon. Always with one of the above filters (generally Mann) with zero issues.

You'll need 10l ideally for a full change and top ups etc

An easy DIY with a pela pump too wink

Exactly what Dan said above!

It's all very simple - and inexpensive.

(And in this generation of cars - can be completed from a standing position, bonnet open (as - frankly - can virtually all routine engine/fluid/ sim maintenance tasks.. The joy of these last-generations of BMWs actually /designed/ to be serviced...)
