Worst frame repair ever

This is not mine but spotted this for sale on Facebook, has anybody ever seen a worse repair than this, he says that it is safe to ride but I would never trust it, to me it is scrap, I would also add that he claims this was repaired by a local metalwork specialist

What is it supposed to look like? The weld bead is ok-ish, but that bracket thing underneath looks a bit sketchy.

Meh... I'd ride it. Welds look fine and it's hardly going to be doing any jumps.

Would have to be cheap for me to buy it though!

It's a bit shadetree and asking money for it is pretty brassnecked, but I don't see any major problems with it. Brompton's site isn't forthcoming about frame material, but they appear to still braze their frames so unlikely to be anything exciting or unusually difficult to weld.

I'm more interested as to what happened to it.

I mean, no-one is doing stair sets on Bromptons!

It really isn’t. Welding like that would get you removed from one of my sites on day one.

According to a quick Google; Brompton frames have a few weak spots known for cracking. Make of that as you will.

I gave a couple, never had, or heard of, any problems
The frames have a 7 year warranty.

The top tube doesnt even look like its aligned properly either side of the weld compared to the pic of the white one. The geometry of the frame would now be different too.

It worries me that having failed once, how long before it breaks again and would you want to be riding it at the point it does.

Looks fine, nothing a bit of wet and dry and a rattle can of gloss black couldn't fix

TBH if I wanted a 64 degree head angle on my Brompton for downhill racing, I'd have just fitted an angleset.

It really isn't... It looks like a diseased hamster has defecated molten steel all over the tube.

That's been done by someone with zero welding experience who has borrowed a cheap MIG welder and had a go.

At least the 'taco' is not unusual... It's been used on a few MTBs in the past.
