Toyota Avensis Mk2 2.0 vvti petrol
Discussion
Been running this car for 5 years and nearly 50,000 miles as a semi-shed. Bought as a temporary solution but ended up really liking it and kept it.
It’s given me relatively trouble free motoring but in the last 12 months a lot of neglected issues have come to a head. It’s been losing coolant for 4 years, finally fitted a new radiator. The clutch has been slipping under load for 4 years, replaced that last month.
Now the car suddenly started to run very lumpy between 1000 and 3000 rpm. The engine light flashes on and off, the traction control and vsc lights are lit up. Apparently the engine light flashing is sign of a misfire.
Mechanics going to plug it in tomorrow and see what it says. I am hoping it’s something as simple as spark plugs, I have not changed them in a while….
Anyone had any similar issues? The car seems to run fine after 3000rpm.

Let us know what the diagnostics say, it's always interesting to hear the outcome of things like this.
Could be something simple like an intake air leak, various hoses have to be moved to fit the clutch?
And check the battery terminals, and earth lead as they may have been removed for the clutch also.
Failing simple checks like that, you'll just have to see what diagnostics say.

I’ve driven it on the new clutch for a few weeks without any issue. Could be something simple like an intake air leak, various hoses have to be moved to fit the clutch?

From my googling some people have had misfires similar to mine in other models of car due to things as simple as a fuse going.

5 years, 50,000 miles without issues.
A few weeks after a clutch being done you have an issue.
You've come on here for advice, take it, and check those things yourself before spending money at a garage.
