Ever heard of DM Coils? Set of 8 for $260.00.
Anyone tried them?
What do you think?

Ignition coils and spark plugs are among the core elements of our engines.

Without prejudice, I would still not use Chinese products. https://trademarks.justia.com/901/86/dmcoil-901861...

Good luck and choose wisely wink

Imagine an engine where you pull a lever and a bank of coilpacks is ejected, like spent cartridge cases. How handy that would be! Add a misfire detector on the display and you're hot to trot.

Ouch!

The point is being well-made, but I am genuinely curious if anyone has had experience, good or bad, with using a non-OEM replacement.
My independent mechanic called Aston Martin for the part number and they would not give it to him. They did tell him that the original OEM part had been “superseded”, which leads me to conclude AM may have determined that the original coil packs had some sort of defect that required remediation/re-design.

I would be grateful for any additional constructive input those more knowledgeable than me (which is everyone!) may have. .

Thanks for the help.

It's a bit strange that AM didn't give a part number for the replacement product. Does AM mean Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. or a dealer?

HWM (astonmartinparts.net) is very friendly and helpful in all matters. I can also recommend bamfordrose.com and valiant-ecosse.com (both independent).

Since 2006, the development of components has naturally continued and new materials (e.g. Iridium for spark plugs) are used and improve the products in various things (temperature resistance, durability, ...).

My Rapide V12 works fine and smoothly with BERU ZS388 coils and NGK SITR7A11G spark plugs.

The part numbers of the ignition coils for the V8 engines are as far as I know: 9G33-12A366-AA or 9G33-12A366-CA.

The BERU ZS389 (0040100389) should therefore fit. Unfortunately, these are difficult to obtain. I have only found two offers (1x 4pcs. and 1x 5pcs.).

Original parts may be easier to find and just as cheap at the right place (or twice as expensive at AM dealers rotate). But you really have to be careful to get AM original parts.

Which region of the world should the parts go to?

Thank you for the response. I am in Dallas, Texas.
I am not sure who my Indy called, but I will find out.

HWM ships worldwide. Two AM and DIY enthusiasts in the USA are Steve with his DB9 Aston1936 Coil Pack and Richard with a Vantage V8 Redpants DIY .

Richard imprints his own material and has an online store with the coils: Redpants Coil Pack.

Unfortunately, you can't see whether it's the older 9G33-12A366-AA or the newer product 9G33-12A366-CA. I would ask briefly before ordering.

BTW: Original AM coils do not have an AM logo but only the part number printed on them! See: https://thumbsnap.com/oY7fvGad

Steve have done a lot of research about coils and spark plugs. Maybe he knows some sources in the US for the parts.

Unfortunately, HWM won't ship to North America for any parts newer than DB7.

Hello all,

I installed DMCoil 3-pin coil packs and NGK Spark Plugs SITR7A11G (94949) on my 06/2008 470bhp DB9 beginning of August 2024. So far so good and runs silky smooth, even with one of my injectors being 10-15% down (discovered during ultrasonic cleaning – will need to replace).

The coil packs are very sturdy and good quality. Having the OEM ones out of the car now, I can see the DMCoil ones are very well made clearly. Proceed with peace of mind!

Btw if anybody wants 11 good OEM coil packs with 37k miles on them and equivalent original spark plugs, please give me a shout. Can post from the UK or from Greece and we can work out a price.
