Came as a bit of surprise today to hear the latest podcast from the Intercooler. They are now partnered with Pistonheads. Not sure how many PHers listen to Dan Prosser and Andrew Frankel, it will be interesting to see what the partnership brings.

He knows his stuff but his languid, posh boy condescension(counterbalanced by fawning over name guests ) can be hard to stomach . Like his erstwhile colleague Harris , he can forget that interviews are solely about the interviewee . I only listen to the podcasts but despite my criticism I enjoy many of them - I loved the two long interviews with Richard Bremner about BL. A lovely man he is too - dry as a bone wit, erudite and devoid of the macho huff and bluster of some more famous scribblers.

Prosser seems a nice guy - but I do keep shouting at the phone for Dan not to believe half of Frankel's F1 stories . His grasp of the Moss era ("as my friend Stirling once told me ..." )is good but very patchy on later eras.

I've only listened to one podcast of his and when I found he was criticising the 'Fiat Tipo GTI' he lost any credibility whatsoever as there was no such car.

Dan Prosser has announced he s leaving The Intercooler

I very rarely listen to their podcast now as Frankel just cannot help but dominate every conversation (with guests or not). Wonder if Dan just got bored of it?

Dan seems like a really good bloke. Hope he goes on to bigger and better things

Bummed to see him go, Frankel is one of my favourite journalists but yea lately he very much enjoys the sound of his own voice way too much. No idea if there is any bad blood or he just wants to do something fresh. Good luck to him

Used to enjoy it briefly but stopped listening as I just can't stand listening to Frankel. Seems I'm not alone.

Probably got bored of having to plug the subscription for 4 minutes in every 30 seconds of content.

Exactly the same for me so this is an easy unsubscribe! (From the podcast, I never paid for it!) Will follow Dan with interest to see what he gets up to next.

From their accounts it doesn’t look very solvent.

Why do you say that? Dan is going to continue to contribute

I completely missed this back in July (mainly as you couldn't pay me to go on Twitter) so it was only when listening to the latest podcast did I hear that he'd gone. Very sad to read this, he was easily a good part of the reason I subscribed, followed his work since the ill fated Performance Car relaunch back in the later part of the 00's and I hope he moves onto good things. I'm surprised as I kind of assumed he was a co-founder/owner.

I can't say I dislike listening to Frankel as much as other people here, he's easily my favourite of the Jean Reno lookalike car journos.

It's absolutely infuriating.

I've never listened/watched a podcast/YT channel where so much time, on EVERY SINGLE EPISODE, is devoted to self promotion asking for people to subscribe and going over and over and over how it's a great gift, how good they are and how much they deserve your money.

Even worse, it's at the beginning so you barely start and they spend 5 minutes going on about themselves. If they got the editing and format in order, they'd pick up subscribers through natural growth. But it's so off-putting.

Andrew Frankel is clearly a cluey journalist but fark me he doesn't half interrupt ALL THE TIME.

And enough of the faux humility "well I'm not great at this..." Strikes me as the sort of bloke that if he wanted your opinion he'd give it to you.

I thought his send off to Dan was a bit "oh well, never mind and we carry on". Could have been a bit more praising of his involvement and left on a wishing him all the best as opposed to the "well were just getting on with it, it doesn't matter" tone.

The Intercooler has a great premise, good insights, clearly built from experience but its tone, delivery and constant sales pitch and mention of the fking A110 detracts from what should have otherwise been a winner.

I thought the same!

“Andrew, does it feel strange to you to not be sitting opposite Dan after six and a half years of doing this podcast every single week?”

“Slightly, but I'm very good at looking forward. It's one of the few things I'm quite good at. I don't spend much time looking over my shoulder.”
He did go on to thank him, but his initial words were pretty brutal

Not sure what Dan is up to next

Yeah he could have been so much more glowing and said nice things and left it at that.

I don't think I imagined it but can't find it now. I saw a short video Jethro Bovingdon did about a new venture the other day which promised to give you direct access to motoring journos to quiz them on their thoughts more directly if you were looking to buy a car. I think Dan may be involved with that (he may have linked to the video or been mentioned, can't remember).

Seems a slightly odd premise but OK. Definitely ballsy given, as mentioned on the Intercooler, his wife has left her job with Singer to set up independently to assist hypercar buyers with specifications etc. Good luck to them though and I do hope his work remains accessible.

EDIT: I didn't imagine it www.thecarhack.com

You didn't imagine it!

I get the idea behind it from what I understand journos receive loads of messages on social media asking their opinion on what car they should buy. Makes sense to try charge for it.

Not sure it will work as I would guess the vast majority of those messages are chaps simply trying to break the ice for a chat with their favourite writer.

Then again I also find the idea of paying someone to help you spec your car a bit mental. Then again interior designers exist.

I understand the idea but I have little faith that this will come to something. The web is FULL of answers to these questions.

TI already do this. Kind of.

There's a bonus episode (paid) where they will answer your questions. I don't subscribe anymore so I haven't listened to it.
