Best replacement 2006 Mini GP Exhaust
Discussion
As per title. I am just wondering whether people have just stuck with the OEM back box or moved to something else. The pipe exiting from the OSR box has broken and I would like to replace it with something. I don't want anything loud or booming so maybe OEM is best. Ideally I just want to replace the rear section.
Any pointers appreciated

Well I have ordered a Milltek resonated exhaust and then popped into BMW/Mini to ask about the OEM replacement. Apparently an OEM one is special order from Germany and was some £1300 ish whilst the Milltek resonated was £673 including fittings to put it together. I also ordered some new bolts for the mounting plate centre section as it is probably original and looks super rusty.

Well the Milltek resonated exhaust is fitted and the take aways from the whole thing (done on my drive with ramps - not ideal) are:-
- I torqued the front and rear flange bolts to 20 Nm (17mm and 15 mm) - very little info found on this even on the Milltek online instructions.
- The Milltek clamp holding the pipes that fit into each other (beautifully I might add) was too big and I have been in touch with the supplier although exhaust paste and the tight fit may be enough.
- It is definitely worth replacing the centre tray and rubber mounts along with the 13mm (x6 and x2) bolts that go with it
- The nuts and captive bolts holding the rear rubber mounts are very stiff and difficult to undo and it's probably worth replacing the nuts and the rubber mounts.
- The plastic 10mm nuts holding the rear splash tray (under the boot battery) are also worth replacing as they rounded on undoing and so had to be removed with moll grips
The stainless steel system is beautiful and extremely well manufactured. It's just a shame about the clamp being the wrong size.

Ps not too loud or boomy

Apologies for the delay. In short a resonated exhaust has centre box (between the engine and the tail pipes) that has baffling to make the exhaust a bit quieter (see picture attached). A non resonated will be without the central box so noisier. Some like all the noise but on a long journey my worry would be the droning noise which you can sometimes get on 'sports' exhausts.
It was bought from Milltek Sport: (link) https://milltekexhaustshop.com/collections/mini-pe...
The only real issue I had was the clamp for the mid-section was the wrong size although the pipes were like a tailored suit and I was able to use the car without. I think it wa three days later Milltek sent me the correct clamp.

Ps the centre bolts did come loose so I had to jack her up and sort that and have since tried loctite (although I read it may not work for high temperatures). We shall see.

Hi Pip, quick uninitiated question as you've been through this now. What is the difference between a resonated and non-resonated Milltek exhaust in terms of sound/noise/drone?
Also, where did you source yours?
Thanks!

Well thought I would update this thread to say I had a bit more noise and blowing and it turned out the flexi pipe was leaking so I had to get a new Milltek manifold section with catalytic converter - GBP 757 for the part. I fitted it myself and had dramas with removal of the top O2 sensor (see hammer and spanner whilst in vice). The lower one was fine as I had replaced it not long ago so it wasn't seized.
All the maniflold bolts came out without any dramas and I replaced them with the ones with larger heads (13mm - ? as opposed to 10mm with 8mm threads) from MAR Motorsport which I think are prepped with anti seize compound. I also bought a new manifold gasket and the replacement was put in from below although the old manifold came out from the top.
I do have an engine light on at the moment but Milltek do say you need an ECU reflash to go with it. It now has a more deeper burbling from the engine but now too load and looks fabulous.

I am in the same boat, Genuine ones with the new straps, bolts, collars etc are 2K now. Pip

Pip, thanks for the response. Quite timely actually as our R50 exhaust is definitely reaching the end of its life, its sounding a bit rough now.It was bought from Milltek Sport: (link) https://milltekexhaustshop.com/collections/mini-pe...

Found an interesting site for MINI parts with pricing, although I suspect the prices are not that up to date...
https://www.mini-spare-parts.co.uk/mini-cars/COOPE... l
According to that site the standard R50 exhaust is £660
There is also a sport option which is cheaper at £508, although I am not sure its still available from BMW.
The Milltek is £400~550 depending on supplier (1320 Mini / Lohen).
As we do less than 1k miles a year with I might end up probably just getting a pattern part. Have found a company, MPS, that produces in Italy and seem to have a bit of pride in their product, so am tempted to go with that for £220 (eBay UK).
