The standard WRX maybe but absolutely no way were it suffixed by three little letters, STi.
Quite sad though, the way the Scoob now seems to be going up against Minis and Focae when it's illustrious predecessors saw battle against the scalpel sharp serrated edge of driving nirvana that is the EVO range.
I love the Civic Type R to bits and the Focus RS I'm sure is far less recalicitrant than was suggested last night but the Scoob's genes are in a different league.

Yes I would hope the STi could trounce a Type-R, different class of car altogether. I agree that in the wet the Scooby would have had a major advantage but surely the standard WRX turbo engine has more performance than that??!! Has me wanting to do a trackday now so I can see just how fast/slow they are.
Reading the Top Gear mag comparision of hot hatches does kind of suggest that the CTR makes a very impressive FWD track day car. It also seemed a bit strange that the Clarkson suppliment rates the CTR above all the other new breed of hot hatches, and yet the magazine itself put the Focus RS well in front.
Personally speaking, I can't imagine the Civic is much fun on a wet circuit, unless perhaps you get off on 60mph straight line wheelspin.

Bear in mind that this is a nice smooth track, so traction isn't so much of an issue. Getting your line right and power is....
All three cars have the same sort of grunt, and the scooby has to deal with more weight and losses from the drivetrain....
On a real road I suspect it would be very different. In the wet - doubly so...

I had very little problems around Castle Coombe in torrential rain earlier this year..and a very big grin!
A tighter circuit would have been a little more tricky though.
