Further to my "F30/F31 questions" thread...

After test driving a nice F31 335d Xd Touring, I could really do with getting a ride in something similar, but fitted with non-rft tyres - just to confirm if the ride will be ok for me.

I'm also considering an F10/F11.

So, I'm hoping there are some kind (local-ish) PH-chums out there who'd be willing to take me out for a little "demo-run" in their car - please smile

I'm in the Aldermaston/Tadley area of West Berkshire.

This is taking me right back to Nov/Dec 2022 when I was trying to decide between an F31 and F11 haha

I'd have offered, good 150 miles away though. I'm sure there will be someone down there, other option is to find one at a dealer with non RFTs on and try and get a test drive.

Might also depend on the suspension...standard, sport or adaptive...and the wheel/tyre size.

that's true, the suspension is also different on LCI cars.

yes lots of variables. I had an F32 4 series, on 18" runflats, m sport suspension it was very, very firm. I've driven a Touring (f31??) on 17" which was much nicer to drive.

That firm?

My F31 on OEM M Sport suspension (RWD, no adaptive) on 18" RFT winters drove superbly and not silly-firm at all; a marked difference from the horrible 19" 403Ms with RFT Bridgestone tyres it came on (and got stripped off the day I got it home & fitted the 18s with RFT winters)

Even better once I'd fitted 18" 405Ms with non RF Goodyear Assym 6s for summers (now on 18" 397s with Goodyear all seasons for winters currently) and again absolutely fine on the OEM suspension

I've just done a full overhaul of every part and it's even better again; that famed M Sport 'crashyness' that they can have has gone thankfully; but that for me only reared its ugly head on the poor/unkempt/untreated rural roads near to us; it was fine on bypasses/motorways and most town roads etc

It is a very personal thing though; what's too firm for one won't be the same for the next...

The F30 330D I test drove that was on Bilstein B12 suspension (B8 shocks, Eibach springs) was horrible for me; it did not drive well at all on rough town roads and country roads etc when driving normally; only came into its own when you out your foot down and took the roads at speed

I would certainly as I work in Basingrad but mine is currently on its winter set up which are runflats...

My F31 is on PS4’s non rft on 19’s, M sport and I think it’s fine. Yes it is stiff but not crashy or harsh and feels well damped. Had various Audi s lines on 19’s and they were back breaking in comparison.

The 5 series is a much better car, particularly the interior which is very nice, by contrast the 3 series of this generation feels like a larger 1 series.
