Brake light switch solution...
Discussion
I put this on Facebook, and thought it might be handy on here, as the posts live a lot longer, and are searchable.
TLDR - add u-channel section to brake pedal lever arm to widen landing zone.
I'm on my third brake light switch in a year, only realised my last one wasn't working when the wife followed me in the daily, and she said the lights were hard to see. Impossible it would seem because they weren't working.
Tapping the ends of the wire together confirmed that the wiring is fine, thankfully.
I've spent £10, then £2, recently £7, and I can't vouch for build quality on any of these, I just now check the brake lights before setting off.
I think the problem is that the position of the switch push-rod is off centre to the pedal lever arm, so it has been bending the plastic rod to the point it fouls inside somehow. They are such basic items that it doesn't make sense, but there you go.
Check out the diagram here to see what I mean.

Anyway, I made an attempt to solve the problem, and used a section of aluminium u-channel profile from B&Q to construct a wider landing zone for the push rod. Just cut it to size, glued it together, then glued it in place. I would like to drill and add a bolt for extra security, but I don't have a suitable drill tool to do that in such a tight space. It is easy to adjust the spacing (or lack of) by packing behind the bracket, to ensure the switch makes contact when the pedal is pushed a tiny amount, but the sideways adjustment is almost nil.

This is more of an FYI for anyone who might be interested.
