I've got an Outback BR with a slipping clutch, so asked for a quote to have it changed at a garage I use a lot. The quote was for £1,800 including the flywheel. Does this sound about right?

Having helped my son change the clutch on his Imprezza RA, its an involved job and the gearbox and transfer box even on that thing weighed far more than one might think.

If you're in the eastern side of the country the mobile chap from Lincs might give you a quote, can send you his details via pm if you wish.

Thanks for the offer of those details, but I'm off the South Coast. The price seems about right then. Which given its around £800-900 for the clutch and flywheel, the rest must be labour.

I trust the garage, having used them many times on my BMW. Just wanted to be sure its not a "fob off" price.

On my Subaru forum a chap is needing a Legacy clutch change, he's found out if it needs a new DMF that (so far) apparently only available from Subaru at something like £2k for the part alone.

Wow, thats a fair whack.

Which forum is it? I should probably get signed up so I can see if I can fix a few niggles.

Other than the slippage, the car has been great so far.

Interestingly the original quote before DMF reared its ugly head was £700 apparently.

Thanks for the recommendations. Sadly I'm on the Isle of Wight, so limited in my options. However I've saved that Banbury place just incase as its not that hard to get to if needed.
