Left home Wednesday morning, drove 220 miles to Scoonie, parked up left the car for 2 hrs max. Started the car to head to my hotel, limp home mode came on, message on the screen you can drive etc but contact your service partner as soon as etc. My limp home mode max 5 miles per hour! Called the AA they came out after an hour, cleared the fault screen but still no more than 5 mph, patrol man followed me to hotel and arranged relay home the next morning, relay arrived as promised, car duly loaded onto the towing dolly and then down to Morrison's Berwick on Tweed, car off loaded and another partner relay service based in Seahouses collected my car onto the back of a huge trailer and then the 100 plus miles back to my nominated garage owner who has looked after my cars for the last 20 years. Time of writing haven't heard what the issue is so I'm gearing myself up for something serious no doubt.
520d X drive, its been a reliable car over the 3 years I've driven it, obviously still awaiting the EGR fiasco to be sorted by BMW UK.

Have decided Wednesday and Thursday this week were not my finest days, however much clapping of hands to the AA who managed my call very well indeed.

Towing dolly with an Xdrive? Hope it wasn't the type that lift the front wheels off the ground.

Exactly. See handbook for x-drive.

AA guy removed my rear wheels put different hubs on and then temp wheels before attaching to the dolly, took him nearly an hour I was well impressed.
