Anyone for the Speed Trials?
Discussion
Hopefully I WILL be getting the Griff back this Friday :bounce::bounce::bounce:. An agonising 2 month repair after a kind gent :ranting: shunted my P&J :cloud9:.
I will need to regain some of the lost ground during my enforced TVRing cold turkey.
So thought Brighton Speed Trials (EXCELLENT!)
He will be most greatful for all support... its a slippy 1/4 though, so not very TVR friendly. Usually beats the rarri 3**'s/ BMW M3's etc etc Its a good laugh all the same.
FWIW I have seen the entry list for dads class (handicap) and there is a Mercedes Mclaren SLR entering!!!!!!!
Its this weekend Joolz, not sure which day tho??

Joolz - it takes place on Madiera drive : rite along the sea front.
One of the only racing on what is a public road in the UK..
I remember a few years ago - when it has 1/2 mile.
The police doing the timing & speed : best was just over 200mph.. and he never got fined
Also enjoyed Toby Frost launching the Ferrari F50 and lunching the transmission.. result. Better than leaving in the the garage..
Will we see you there ?

A huge thanks to Nick and the rest of you TVR guy's for making me and my mate welcome and letting us park with you guy's. Your cars looked great all parked up together. We were dead lucky with the weather and pulled up the handbreak in the garage to the sound of rain drops. It was strange to be introduced to someone with "billy no mates meet billy no mates". All I can say is he's a handsome devil too. How about you visit Brands Hatch next sat, the Total Kit Car Live show (see total kit car web site for more info) it's £5 to get in and I think a few of you would enjoy it.
Good luck see you all on the road.

Hey all, apparently a couple of people spoke to dad, but I wasnt around (was at the start line watching other cars go by) - thanks to all for saying hi/ cheering on the TVRs (there was the historic racing griffith?/ Tuscan with 500bhp there too)
Firstly, anyone who saw me pushing the car, it was nothing to do with it having problems, I was just concerned about it running out of fuel!!! Though in hindsight more fuel would have meant better traction (weight over the rear wheels!)
Anyway, run one; the plan was to use a fairly low start rpm (there is very little grip on the 1/4, its not like santa pod) and leave it in third across the line. We had previously changed up to fourth, but it seems this is the wrong choice, however we are running a very low rev limiter (see the Cerbera forum thread "rev limiter"
- which despite five years of ownership, we have only recently noticed! So then - off the line, minimal revs and a little bit of wheelspin... considering the grip levels it was a pretty good start and things were looking good as it powered along. Until that is, we couldnt get third
Dad just about managed to hook third just as it crossed the line in a pitiful 14.6 and 80mph terminal.
This proved a little embarissing later on, when speaking to a BMW M3 owner who was apparently going pretty much as quick as possible. A smile appeared on his face when I said there must have been a problem and it only managed 80mph across the line. The smile was soon very much so gone when I said he had got a 14.6, (a full half a second quicker than his time I later found out) even without third gear
Second run... Dad kept the same revs as there was a little bit of wheelspin before and grip would have improved due to the rubber being layed down by earlier runners. Slight mistake, the grip had improved a fair bit and the Cerb bogged down off the line
Luckily, this time he managed to get it into third fine, but this time the rev limiter stopped the fun at 107, and the car went across the line in a late 13 stuttering on the limiter. If it hadnt been there it would have gone much quicker still, even so, we were fairly pleased. Last year it managed a 13.5 with fourth gear being used (shouldnt have to, and it costs about half a second to change)
So then, lessons learnt - we will be getting the rev limiter reset (the AJP8 is more than capable of revving past 7200rpm, where our limiter cuts in) and perhaps a little emeralding is in order to unleash a few of the trapped horses. This car is very much so one that is being held back at the moment by the rev limiter and such, and has much more potential to come. Hopefully next year we can improve significantly.
Even so, for what its worth, a Cerbera that is being strangled by its own rev limiter is still MASSIVELY quicker than a BMW M3, able to walk from a 355 (which has better traction), leave a chipped 580bhp vanquish wondering where the money goes, as well as many other cars that are very quick in isolation. Do not underestimate your TVR's!!! The speed trials do not favour our cars due to the low grip levels, yet still they can pull out a healthy margin over cars which are very quick in thier own right.
I put two cars down as a benchmark for what we wanted to beat, the first - a 997 Carrera S (295'wide grippy tyres!!) which we beat by about 5mph terminal and about half a second from memory(?) and second, a Lamborghini Murcielago - whos 4wd/570bhp managed to pull just one tenth ahead... next time, next time.
We had a wonderful day and hope all who watched and listened appreciated the runs. We will be there next year with a far less limited Cerbera, hopefully to beat our previous times by a considerable margin.
Thanks agian,
Ben CA

Im quite light and I hide all the scratches when I sit on it... last year dad thought it would be funny to drive with me on there. Its f**king scary at 15mph on the bonnet of a Cerbera!!!!! lol
It'd be good to see another Cerbera there! Especially as yours is running a rather better map than ours (standard!)

The grip is obviously a big factor. I was wondering why I saw such a gentle start, now it makes sense. Surprise of day for me was the Ford Puma look alike, which had been rebuilt from the ground up in carbon fibre. Did the quarter in 9.4s with a 150mph terminal, only bikes were quicker and then not by much.
Hi Ben - I saw your dad's second run, from up on the railings right opp start line. I saw some pretty awful runs by a lot of the cars there - Ferrari F40, McLaren Merc, 997 Porker, Dodge Viper - all getting awful starts and pretty poor times. Lot of the bikers also limped off the line, and there were a lot of missed gearchanges - must be tricky, not sure I'd fancy trying it myself!
Missed the Puma run, sounds v impressive.
Fasted I saw was one of the drag bikes which did a low 9 sec run, terminal speed 164

Yeah, the grip is certainly a huge factor and a big reason why many of the cars messed up... One that stuck in my mind this year was the Tuscan Racer (sub900kilos/500bhp+?) - it slithered off the line in first gear for what seemed like an age, changed into second, and tank slappered the other way and continued to wheelspin until about third gear
Excellent to watch, not such a great time/ speed though.
I was a little disappointed with the SLR, I expected more - certainly effective once on the move - but the starts all looked rather electronic... IIRC this is the same person who had a CL65AMG last year. To my mind it was the CL that was more impressive, there was little difference in performance, but the CL was HUGE and 2200kilos!! :runsandhides: sounded better than the SLR too...
As always, the Speed trials made me fall for the F40 once more. I dont care what evo say, its the best F car out there (in modern times atleast) in my opinion. Dont know what exhaust it had on it, but it sounded AWESOME. It was certainly
ing quick when nicely hooked up too, perhaps a replacement for the Cerb?
might not be as practical though!
