So come on then we all agree Sven is rubbish, what formation and who would you play?
Me it is 3 - 1 - 4 - 2

Robinson

Carragher - Ferdinand - Terry

Carrick
Wright Phillips - Lampard - Gerrard - Ashley Cole

Rooney - Owen

Terry would be captain

I dont think you are far out with that team,i think Terry,Gerrard,Carragher or Ferdinand(with a kick up his arse) would have the qualities to be captain,i dont think many take Beckham serious enough in his captains role and as for Hargreaves ive never rated him and cant think why he is in the team.

In my not very considered opinion, England need a proper holding midfield player. If you look at all the great teams (or rather, the teams that win things), nearly all of them have a proper defensive midfielder: Brazil had Dunga, France (and Juventus) had Deschamps, Italy had Albertini, Argentina had Simeone, Manchester United have Keane, Arsenal had Viera, Chelsea have Makelele (and so did Real Madrid...and when did they stop winning things?). I think that Makelele was Chelsea's most influential player last season, and the decline of Man United mirrors the decline of Roy Keane.

So, my point is, that with a central midfield pairing of Lampard and Gerrard, who is going to protect the defence? Neither of them are great tacklers. The team needs someone to just run around making tackles and then pass a simple ball to a player six yards away.

Having said all that, I have no idea who actually could play the defensive role for England. I can't think of anyone who is really good enough. Perhaps Carragher?

SG can tackle, didnt you see him playing Right back in the European cup final, far better than just about any player I could think of for that position, just theres only one of him.

Its not the players, they should have breesed past NI, its the managment.

The players were the only ones on the pitch, the coach can't make all the decisions

Beckham and Rooney between them could buy the entire NI team with a month's wages

The players need to grow up and take responsibility for being feckless overpaid chavvy to$$ers.

All IMHO, natch

:chuckle: Trying to stack the deck a wee bit are we?

I played football (not American) as a kid and every time our team tried to use that formation the dude in the zebra shirt would start waving a rainbow of cards at us.

quite simple for Sven really 4-1-5...

back 4 then Beckham in front of them spraying 50 yrd passes up front like a lunatic and hope someone gets on the end of it!!!!

Knowing Sven he will use this formation drop lampard & gerrard and bring in Heskey and Crouch with owen, defoe and rooney to pick up the knock downs...

sorry cant put up a sensible post.....still bloody !!!

That's a bit half-hearted...why not try the 1-9 formation? It massively increases the chances of someone getting on the end of one of Beckhams passes
