For those who have experienced it, how much of a step up is the G20 M340 from an F30 340?

I can only help with the F80 to G80 transition and the difference is bigger (I expect) than an F30/G20. Although I did have a 340i prior to my F80.

A lot.

The G20 is a far better car in general and the M340i has a great spec which includes lots of m-specific mechanical parts. As a result it is a lot closer to a true M car than the M-lite products of previous generations and BMW market it that way.

The G80 M3 feels quite different to drive, but the M340i gets you pretty close to the overall experience.

They are great cars and a big upgrade from the F series in terms of space, ride quality and comfort.

Massive.

I moved from a 440i GC to an M340i; the rigidity and improvement in composure is hugely noticeable.

The step up in terms of things like cabin quality from the F to the G series is massively noticeable.

I had a G20 320i for a week and I grew to really like the interior (it was a pre-LCI one so still had buttons). Even BMW’s digital dials impress ed me having been very critical of them (I still think the speedo and rev counters are silly shapes) but they work well and display lots of information and are easily customisable. The built in safety features like lane departure warning did my head in but I believe if you set up a profile you can turn that off permanently.

They are a big car though (my E92 felt tiny afterwards) and the latest electric steering manages to be worse than that of the F series. The 320i I had was pretty competent, it just offered very little feel or feedback I thought.

Thanks for the responses.

I expected a gap but perhaps not as definitive as outlined.

Am in Australia and 2016/17 340s are $40-50k and 2019 M340 are down to 60k, which isn't a huge difference - perhaps worth trying to get in to an M340 rather than settle on the earlier car.
