Mrs P outdid herself at chrimbo and bought a pair of tickets to quali at Silverstone this year.

Never been to an f1 race!

How do we get the best out of the day? What's he best way of getting to the circuit? What areas are worth visiting? It looks so big on the map that I can imagine wandering around all day and barely seeing anything and ineovatbly missing the best bits..... Any tips?

Firstly, you will not believe the speed. TV makes the cars look slower.

When I was there Saturday was a roving grandstand ticket, so you could sit anywhere.

I did the grandstand at Becketts for FP3, then moved to the front straight for qualifying and the support races. Worth considering as Maggots/Becketts is probably one of the best series of corners on the F1 calendar and it's always good to be at the start/finish for races.

Arrived about 9, not much of a queue but that was probably the latest I wanted to get these.

First of all, nice work by MRS P! You'll love it.

Second of all, depends on the type of ticket you have.

If it's general admission you'll need to get there early to get a spot and will likely have to stay in the same spot all day to get a good view. Good general admission spots tend to be Copse, the banking at the end of Maggotts/Becketts/Chapel or the grass bank at Vale.

If you've got a grandstand ticket you may still be able to roam, unless they've changed things again. All depends what you want to see, Club is great for getting upclose to the cars, as is Luffield, but they're some of the slower sections. I'd always recommend Becketts stand or even the newish one at Chapel. The change of direction through there is unreal! Village is also decent for getting to see a lot of the cars.

On a side note, I'm one of many volunteer "Racemakers". It's our job to be there and help everyone have the best weekend possible, we're hard to miss in our bright pink tshirts, so if you need any help/advice on the day just seek one of us out!

Thanks all, it's a rovong grandstand ticket- does that mean you can sit in any grandstand at any time?

Are any of the support races worth watching and is there any infield areas that are particularly good?

Is food totally horrific price wise?

Roving grandstands, yes any Grandstand (bar a few sections for hospitality) but the popular ones fill up hours before the F1 sessions

Definitely watch the support races - infield is a separate ticket

Food can get pricey, so bring your own if possible

This is not a joke. Silverstone must be the only place on Earth you can be suffering from hypothermia and heatstroke at the same time.

Expect to pay £8 for a bacon sandwich (at least it was in 2022)

I would really recommend trying to see the cars heading into Maggots, even just for a few minutes (it gets busy). You're right next to the track there so they rattle your skeleton, and watching them hit that section is an F1 car at its absolute peak.

If you want to see them at top speed, the end of the Hangar Straight is good.

If you want to see the Red Arrows, don't sit in the Becketts grandstand because it all happens behind you, as I found out last time I went hehe

I would advise you to check back over threads from the F1 section during the weekend last year or years before, there are is all sorts of info there good and bad.

Other people can advice on food, where to sit, getting around etc.

But as you said you want to get the best out of the day, I suggest following the feeder series this season. At least watch the highlights and get to know the top teams and drivers. You will find the support races significantly more enjoyable.
