won't teams just put this years livery on the "2024" launch cars which are actually the 2023 cars anyway? This way they don't reveal any aero / car design secrets.
So failing any mandatory tests won't effect the official car launch.
Only if they're doing a "livery launch". Generally the cars teams show at their launch are early iterations of the car they'll run for the season. If there's anything that they feel is a big innovation they might keep it under wraps - either not visible in the images they release or replaced with a generic, simplified version. It's usually the case for the bigger teams that they'll sit a car on a stage and then release some 3D renders rather than actual photos of the car.So failing any mandatory tests won't effect the official car launch.
There's a great YouTube channel called Kyle.engineers that's run by a former Mercedes aerodynamicist from their title winning years. For the past few years he's done videos on most of the launch cars analysing what they're trying to do with their aero packages.
Of course, the car failing a crash test will have no bearing on the launch anyway: the cars on a stage don't have to pass scrutineering!
Since Sauber are apparently going with a black and green livery this year, I thought I'd have a stab at predicting the other teams:
Red Bull - black and carbon fibre with some matte dark blue.
Mercedes - black and carbon fibre
McLaren - black and carbon fibre with some orange
Aston Martin - black and carbon fibre with some metallic green
Ferrari - black and carbon fibre with some red
Alpine - black and carbon fibre with some light blue
Williams - black and carbon fibre with some metallic blue
Alpha Tauri - black and carbon fibre with some white and dark blue
Haas - black and carbon fibre

Real 2024 McLaren MCL38 coming on a very busy 14th Feb apparently.

Given that all the launches are going to be crowded one on top of the other I suspect this is why McLaren went early with their livery launch today. Eyeballs and column inches all to themselves and they'll get a second crack with the real car later.
It's all a PR exercise anyway. If anyone has come up with something out of the ordinary they aren't going to reveal it at a car launch and it's generally the 2nd test before they actually start showing the "real" car.
Suppose it keeps the salivating fans happy. God knows how they would have coped in the days when it was weeks between every bit of news.

Am I the only one who thinks it would be better if F1 booked an arena and all the teams did their car launch in the same place at the same time?
I think that arena is Sakhir and the date is 21st Feb ... anything brie then is unlikely to be the whole package Mark-C said:
