My Christmas present to me Audi TT

Having sold the MGTF earlier this year I still fancied another “sporty” car. My thoughts were an SLK or
Audi TT. Looked at a few SLKs and to be honest in my price range they were all a bit ropey and probably would need a few pounds spent to bring them up to scratch.
Moved on to the Audi TT, again most seemed a bit overpriced especially dealer cars and when looking again found I was less than impressed at the presentation and overall lacking in appeal with weeping seals and dull paint.
I had given up had scratched my itch and decided to forget it, when out of the blue while browsing the net found a 2006 TT 2lt tfsi for sale privately about 10 miles from me. Looked okay in the ad, mot history was good and apparently had full history.
Arranged to see it and was amazed how different the presentation and quality of it was compared to my dealership viewing, 45 minutes later the car was mine. Even managed to drop the price by £600, didn’t pay shed money but was less the 4k which I was happy with.
The good bits.
Has full service history with only two owners, last service May which included cam belt and water pump.
Currently sitting on 80000 miles
Owner had put a stainless steel custom exhaust on
New heater blower( I believe these are a known problem)
All wheels have been tracked .
Everything is present in boot and couldn’t believe the first aid kit was still hidden away in the rear seat
cubby hole.
Came with all original documents including radio code and a big folder from Audi with original stock number on and loads of other info.
There are some bad bits.
Needs new coils on rear and the rear subframe needs a good brushing and repainted
The cabin has water ingress , knew it on buying, will have to trace the fault and sort. Anyone any suggestions on this.
Seats which are leather alacantara need removed and given a good clean and refresh, leather is good with no rips or tears it just needs treated and cleaned.
Wheels need refurb.
Paint is good no rust but need a compound and polish.
Car drives well, no knocks or rattles I am surprised at the acceleration and road holding.
Plans are to keep the vehicle stock, no messing with it. I am 60 next birthday so the days of mods are long gone.Sort out the water in cabin refresh interior with a good clean do an oil and filter change just so I have a starting point
Insurance unbelievable £222 a year

Well took the wheels off today and surprise discs at front look almost brand new, pads have loads of meat which suggests the brakes have been done also but not documented, the rears are not new but still good and whoever has done the brakes have made a proper job with everything front and back greased up, even the dust guards are in excellent condition.
Got underneath and the rear definitely needs a good going over, fortunately after a bit of scraping the rust is surface and not into the metal so an easy fix. Front was super clean thanks to the undertray still been present which is the only one I have looked at that still had it in place.
Shame about the rear subframe but a bit of work won’t kill me, putting it down to the car originally been and having spent most of its life in Glasgow.
Going to take my time and get the car in tip top condition and have it as a keeper as they will eventually start making money if I ever decide to sell it.

Lovely car , we’re 3 months down road with water ingress ( no sign when we brought car ) & after multiple visits too body shop , seams etc being resealed we still have issues ,trying to work out where all the water is comming from seems a near impossibility ( it seems we have multiple leaks )

Great choice, did the same last year and got a mk2 roadster.
The MG as a summer day car was good fun, but the TT is a much more useable car day to day.
The tt forum is a great source of info, most issues including leaks have been discussed and there is a good how to section. People friendly and lots able to offer specific advice.
For mods, I put cruise control on, was pretty straightforward and then added an aftermarket CarPlay stereo for satnav and Bluetooth

That looks a great buy. My brothers then girlfriend now wife had one of these for a year or so and we had it for a week while they were away on holiday. I know it might not have big power but i thought it was a great fun car and it generated an amount of grip in the corners that took me by surprise. Still look good today, to me anyway.
Always liked a TT and with a bit of elbow grease that'll look fantastic.
Obvious suspect for the leak(s) would be the drain holes, I expect if you look under the scuttle panel there might be build up leaves and general crud, might require removal of the wiper arms. A poke down the hole with a stiff rod (ooh err missus) should do the trick.
Friend had one and the windscreen seal was perished and letting in water so have a look for any cracking. Ditto on the door seals. I've used Gummi Pflege to keep seals conditioned and seems to work well.
