Is it considered high mileage: SEAT IBIZA 17 plate TSI 80k?

Dear all,

I'm sure this question was asked zillion times, searched online and looking for answers but here I am.

As the subject says, currently looking at a SEAT IBIZA 17 plate 1.0 TSI 80k full service history, checked MOT myself which has repeatedly showing - "Offside front shock absorbers has light misting of oil" and last one shows "Offside rear coil spring fractured or broken". Other than these two advisories, MOT passed.

I was told VW petrol give nothing but trouble after 60k mark.

I am really keen to hear others experience and any advice is much appreciated.

Well, it's above average mileage per year (10k a year, apparently). I'd be asking them to fix those things as a minimum. Also, anything European is going to be less than perfect as they get older, even if it does have a German owner.

I guess the question for you is - are you getting a good deal?

It's from a main dealer with 1 year warranty and breakdown cover for under £8k, 1 owner from start.

They did say will fix any advisories on MOT but as I am going to own it through HP, so trying to figure out it's economic viability beyong 1 year warranty.

By the time it hits 100k, it's on uncharted territory.

I can't seem to find any high mileage Ibiza on autotrader, max are 130k absolute trash.

I really like the look and feel of this car, can't make up my mind...smh

I'm seeing similar models with lower mileages for around the same price or less. A couple with about 40k miles for just a couple of hundred more.

@Hugo Stiglitz - I see the point, WBAC valued that £5k - I know that's only a guide but still. I've seen private adverts on AT are slightly cheaper with less mileage but I guess main dealer has priced in their brand/warranty on this one.

@Hoofy - are they by private or trade seller?

Both. Just get on Autotrader and put nationwide.

Thanks Hugo Stiglitz; will keep this in mind when I do test drive this Sat.

I also looked at a Skoda Fabia 17 1.2 TSI 90 SE, but just over 50k mileage and for £7,800 from another main dealer. But the warranty is 6 months, but I have asked for details and will certianly try to negotiate that.

My car broke down couple of days ago and currently sitting in the driveway so just trying to keep my head striaght.

I guess it's probably better to go with a good car with less warranty than a bad one with longer warranty.

I treat dealers like private sales these days. Check the warranty very carefully.

Oh, wow - I heard stories about third party warranties being very difficult hence my inclination towards main dealer warranty but as 'Hoofy' suggested, this is certainly I have to inspect thoroughly and not rush.

We learn something new everyday.

I did consider lease but just not practical for me right now for a number of reasons.

The Fabia sounds like the better deal, slightly lower price, bigger engine, half the miles and basically the same car underneath. Of the 2 I'd pick the Fabia.

@Bobupndown - thanks. I will test drive the Fabia next week, will see how that goes.

Also, just thought to share some update from today's test drive of this Ibiza.

TBH, I was expecting better quality, although the car looked great, drove just fine until after 15mins of driving when I was slowing down by the turn, the gear shift didn't feel smooth. It's very similar to Polo/VW that I am very familiar with.

When I said that to the sales guy who was in the passenger seat, he just muttered - "yeah it's 82k (well - thanks for reminding me) but has two years warranty". I told him at that mileage it would be wear and tear and unlikely be covered.

He just went quiet!
