Went for a drive in my car last week and all was good. Jumped in it later the same day and the display / communications unit on the dash has stopped, err, displaying anything.

The radio works and I can use the buttons on the wheel to change channels etc but the screen itself is just blank so no satnav display or Apps or the like.Everything else works as it should do. I checked the appropriate fuse and it was fine (I changed it just incase) but am a bit stumped.

Anyone had anything similar or can point to anything helpful to look for?

Thanks

Yes, tried that and every variation of similar push-and-hold buttons that google could throw at me and also removed and cleaned and replaced the sat nav SD card incase that helped.

Still blank frown

Oh heck.
Would like to know the outcome to this for possible future reference.

Mine did that once last year. I followed the reset instructions on the facebook group. It’s been fine since. Facebook being Facebook I tried to look it up for you but can’t find it frown but a hunt round Google will show it up.

Thanks also.

Google throws up lots of combinations of home / favorites/ nav / music / etc buttons to hold for 10 secs to “reboot the system” but so far I’ve not had any success with any of them. If you can find one that worked than that would be ace.

Unless my Google skills are rotten (a definite possibility) I can’t even find anything on YouTube that shows someone somewhere sorting it … and bearing in mind you can usually find a how-to on YouTube for anything it’s not promising.

Found it. Nav, back arrow, mute all together.

Ahhhh…. Thanks again.

I went dashing off into the garage with such anticipation there smile

Unfortunately that didn’t do anything in my case frown

I guess after the Christmas and New Year stuff is out the way I’ll contact the local Dealer and see what they say.

If it's in warranty then throw at the dealer.

If not, check out the guides for fitting \ adding carplay - they will show you how to remove the unit and then you can check connections etc, and give you some confidence if you need to replace!

If you haven't already try disconnecting the battery for about 10 mins (or longer) then reconnect. Other than that it is possible the screen has failed.

Thanks. Tried that, left it for the afternoon and unfortunately nothing changed frown

It's a pest. The car is a very occasional use thing. I've never used the sat-nav to actually navigate anywhere and the radio stations I've tuned in are still there so I can cycle up and down them using the steering wheel. Similarly I've paired my phone in the past so can use the wheel buttons to accept incoming calls even tho I can't see who is calling on the screen. So, it's hardly a real inconvenience. On the other hand I do want it to work so need to get it to the Dealer to at least see what is needed I guess.

So, bumping my own thread but........

Coming back to my Nav display issue. Nothing appeared to resolve or reset the problem. A few months on and the top corner of the display seems to have delaminated internally. The MX5 is very much an occasional use car so not actually having the display hasn't really been much of an inconvenience but today I did get round to calling a couple of local Dealers to see what the fix was and a ballpark cost.

And the scores on the doors are.... £1100 plus vat, so £1300ish, for the part and 2 hrs at £150 plus vat per hr to fit and recode or whatever.. so all-in-all about £1700 at the Mazda Dealer. Not sure I was expecting that.

If it’s purely the screen that needs replacing it’s a dead easy job to do yourself , I think there’s only one screw from memory - could be wrong but either way it’s very simple.

Pick up a screen from a breaker for probably ten percent of what Mazda charge for a new one, they don’t need coding or anything.
