We've had an M340i for a while and I want to disable the comfort access to reduce theft risk (never been a fan of it for that reason). In the menu settings it looks like you can disable it but it makes no difference whatsoever, the car still unlocks on a handle grab. What am I missing ?

Thats not disabling comfort access - thats disabling the approach/walk away from the car part of it(so if ticked you dont even have to touch the handle to unlock)

I imagine to properly disable it you will need something like bimmercode/Carly etc.

As said above; you'll need Bimmercode to disable it (better than Carly as no subscription)

Get that on your mobile (iOS or Android) and get the relevant dongle from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/iCar-Pro-4-0-Diagnostic-C...

Thanks folks, I will check out the suggestions. Does anyone know if disabling the access from the car end in this way will stop the key constantly transmitting and if it now opens on a randomised code off the button whether that can still be grabbed by a scrote anyway ?

My brother recently purchased an M135i, 4 years old. We had this discussion with the main dealer. Their advice was that even if the comfort access is disabled or coded out, it will still be keyless start. So keep keys in a faraday wallet and get a steering lock on it.

That was one of my concerns. We do keep both keys in a Faraday pouch in the house, its when we're out & about there's more concern for opportunists. My wife was trailed by a couple of dodgy looking geezers in an S3 in a car park (they parked in several different places and never got out), she ended up changing car parks as she was so sure they were after it.

I've a large faraday pouch for the house and a smaller one for when I'm out & about; as soon as we're out of the F3e1 the key goes into that pouch etc... Faffy but worth it IMO

mines in it's pouch the moment the car is locked. We shouldn't have to, but sadly it's the way of the world at the moment.

It's still rife by us (Midlands)

It's not too bad for us TBH - but peace of mind etc

Everyone in the family have cars with comfort access etc

Like you said it's a sad state of affairs

Depending on the age and if it’s a G model you should have a key that’s stops transmitting after a few minutes. My x5 was manufactured in Jan 19 and stops sending a signal after a few minutes if not moved.
