Forti Corse- The Slow Yellow Car We All Loved
Discussion
Does anybody remember Forti?
Their story was one that really captivated me as a young teenager. These cars qualifying 10secs off the pace, never progressing beyond the back row or two. Then in 1996 taking on the Shannon sponsorship and folding.
I loved the little team as it was one of the last of the private teams where it was a case of "The little guy taking on the giants" We had a great selection of teams like that then. Simtek, Pacific, etc.
Just wondering if anyone has any memories of the days of Diniz, Moreno, Badoer and co in the yellow cars!

...Andrea Moda, Osella, ATS, Spirit....
Yeah, remember them well. Some had potential, some had no hope but gave it a shot anyway.
I've never worked out if they contributed anything to the sport though. Rarely would they qualify or even pre-qualify. Few of their drivers ever went on to better things.... but it did make things a tad more interesting.

I've had a love of them that comes from the F1 game on the original Playstation. Since it was one of only two games I had for quite some time, I played it a lot and managed to win the world title with them, Pacific and Simtek one half term. When I found out Panini had released it as part of the F1 collection, I bought it instantly to add to my small but growing F1 Wall of Shame.
Need to add a HRT and Simtek, then hope someone makes the holy grails of the Mastercard Lola, Life, Andrea Moda and Caterham CT05

I started watching F1 in the mid-90's 1995 was my first full season.
I remember wondering how the teams down the back were ever meant to catch the big guys at the front when they were 7 seconds or so off the pace. I always liked the underdog and loved when a small team did well but there just seemed to be little to no chance of them ever getting off the back few rows. They did add something to the sport though in that it was interesting to see them flirt with the 107% cutoff and back when there was a much higher attrition rate in races there was a chance of points, indeed if there had been points for the top 10 then as there is now, I think some of the smaller teams would have managed it once or twice. Having the same 10 steady teams for years now has gotten very boring. I mean Haas seem happy to just be there and not really try to move forward, for me that's not what F1 is about. Race and win whatever battle you are in even if its the battle to not be last.
To be honest Simtek were more my backmarker team, after what happened with Ratzenberger at Imola I always hoped they would find a way to stay in the sport and move forward. The fact that their car looked stunning (to my eyes at least) didn't hurt. Their approach also interested the young me, Simtek as far as I know stood for Simulated Technologies and their car was (if my memory serves correctly) almost entirely designed on computers and based on simulated runs a technology that is everywhere in F1 today in a much more advanced form obviously. But this was a new young team that were trying to innovate, something missing in a sport now where everyone runs the same engine layout, produced by 4 manufacturers and designs to an ever tightening rule set.

F1 is now a franchise closed shop, so you will never see the likes of them again at this level.
Pretty much all of the higher level single seater motorsport has gone this way and even in sportscars, if you don't have bucket loads of money and OEM backing it's almost impossible to compete or progress.
Mastercard Lola was probably the biggest cockup, that exercise killed a very good company with a lot of history of building very successful racing cars.
Some of the real dogs in period can be made into decent racing cars if built properly, a lot of the failures were at management level with the engineers hobbled by idiots.

You can actually drive one if you want!
That looks tremendous valueWas very good fun. But will say. The three sisters track is more of a large go cart track than a fully fledged racetrack. Was still mind blowing wrt acceleration etc. but not much room to really stretch its legs. Probably a good thing in reality. As it was (for me) bonkers quick.
Was a great day all in all.

An F1 car around 3 sisters??!? Wow. That's a pairing that goes as well as a Caterham around Talladega! Was very good fun. But will say. Would still have been ace, obviously - I'd still very much like to try it some day =)

Spark have definitely done an Andrea Moda (because I have got one!) and I think they may have done the Caterham. They certainly had the license for them.Be warned, as all Sparks are basically limited editions the Morneo 'Monaco' car goes for big money but the McCarthy car is a bit cheaper.
I often wonder if Spark has worked out what a great seller the Life would be? Everyone loves that car and the license for that can't be big money.

But don't think I could ever justify spending £265 on a 1/43 scale model

These days I always buy two of each car at the launch price, one getting put by for the 'wine cellar' and one for display. So I have a Moreno Andrea Moda, a Coloni-Subaru and a couple of Minichamps Lotus' that will help pay the rent if times get tough. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155669787032?mkcid=16&a...

Mind you, I did pay £175.00 for the Spark Lotus 80 and that wasn't the one I really wanted. It was the 'winged' version rather than the original test version which are (or were) knocking on the door of £400.00!!!
