Had the car parked up for a while and now the battery is completely dead. Just ordered a new battery for my 218i 16 plate. Going to attempt to fit it my self but the only issue I’ve seen online is the need to code the battery when fitting it. Is there any simple ways of coding the new battery when fitting it? Is there a cheapish code reader I can purchase rather than going to bmw and costing an arm and leg. Thanks

Yup; simple job to DIY

Get the Creator C410 code reader off Amazon if you want a simple plug n play; this will do a decent job of reading codes but it'll also allow you to register the battery to your car (like for like); but it won't code a new battery to your car if you change the specs (ie 95Ah to 105Ah) etc

I've just done this job a few weeks back on my 2015 F31 using the C410 and it does what it's meant to do wink

If you want a more singing & dancing code reader & coding tool; then Bimmerlink & Bimmercode on your mobile with the relevant OBD dongle off Amazon is a great tool(s) to have also; but twice the price

The apps will be on Google Play/Apple App Store etc thumbup
