Fair or not?

First proper 1 hour ride in rain and it was quickly clear they had wetted out. The gloves are Alpinestars SR-3 V2 drystar. Because they are 6 weeks 'old' the shop said they'll need to go back first and do you have any others that you can wear in the meantime? Summer ones yes. I sold my only other winter gloves.

Today they are still wet.

I had this with a RevIt! jacket i bought from GetGeared. They sent it to the repairers and didn't offer a spare on a £400 jacket.

It was away for weeks until I hit up RevIt! themselves and MCN on Twitter. New jacket next day...

I’d just get my money back.

As I understand it,your contract is with the shop.
They should replace or refund, what they do with them thereafter is up to them.

That's what I thought.
I had a warranty issue on a jacket a while back. It was 9 months old & the zip broke. Sportsbike shop exchanged it for a replacement within a few days, no quibble. I would like to think this was normal practice, or are they just a better outfit??

SBS are a good outfit, hence the more professional handling of the matter. And it is correct to say that your contract is with the retailer. If they want to get them inspected and replaced by the manufacturer, or have been told to do so by them, that's fine but you shouldn't be left without gloves, especially if they've barely been used.

I would contact the shop again and say this isn't good enough, either replace or refund - and if they refuse, go straight to your credit card provider (assuming, of course, that you paid using one) and let them deal with it. I've had success with that route in the past.

Your contract is with the retailer and the retailer is solely responsible but you have to give them reasonable opportunity to address the issue.

I don’t think that sending them back to the manufacturer comes under the remit of “reasonable”. They’re just trying to weasel out of their end of the “contract”.

As stated above - I’d ask for my money back. However I suspect they’d have something to make that as hard as possible too.

If you paid by credit card then go to your credit card provider and let them sort it out.

I pay for more and more stuff by card these days as I know they will fight my corner for me if required.

A* drystar gloves are total crap im my opinion. Never knew drystar meant to absorb all water like a sponge whilst wearing a plastic bag underneath! It took me 4 days to dry them out (aided with a hairdryer).

That pretty much describes mine. They said 'oh never had an issue with these before'...
