Post purchase I have been sent a letter by my dealer, asking me to sign a document which acknowledges the possibility of future government measures against my car, which could include software updates.

I am a bit reluctant to sign it, has anyone else been given such a letter?

My dealer says it relates specifically to the 4.0 engine and that it is in fact a "buy back" guarantee so they will buy my car back if something emissions related happens that would make the value plummet. I have read the document several times and cannot see anything related to a buy back guarantee, all I can see is my acceptance of the possibility of future software measures.

Am I over thinking it? I don't want to fall out with my dealer but at the same time I don't want to sign something now that could be disadvantageous in the future.

What have they said are the downsides to not signing this letter?
Ask them to point out the buy back clauses in the document?

It does sound like they may be expecting “news” that the emissions testing or the software for that engine wasn’t above board.

I received one, standard stuff from Porsche, but it’s not related to the 4 lhr engine, I bought a car with a 3 ltr Turbo engine. Signed mine.

You should have received this on the buyback.

Thank you, mine is nothing like that. Perhaps they have sent me the wrong document, will give them a call later.
