It had to happen sooner or later, but still sad.

Mods - this is about the music so please don’t move to the celebrity RIP thread in the lounge?

Genuinely the worst band I've ever seen live in 40 plus years of gig going (at Reading 1989) but left some really great songs particularly those on Rum, Sodomy and the Lash.

RIP Shane.

Came here just to post the same.
Never saw them live, but played their music regularly, although probably not so much in the last 10 years.
Off to the great bar in the sky for a couple.
RIP Shane.

That's two singers gone from a very popular Christmas song that's played every year.

One far too young and Shane not far off my age frown

As someone who worked in ToysRus as a student over Christmas, that song was a ray of sunshine in a sea of saccharin ste that made you wish you could swallow your own tongue for the sweet release of unconsciousness.

For that Shane, Kirsty, I shall ever be grateful.

I was there for that, and it was the worst I've ever seen them. MacGowan fell off the stage at the start of the second song and didn't return.

They've been genuinely wonderful at other gigs, notable those at Brixton Acadamy held pre-Christmas.

RIP Shane

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Codladh sámh Shane.

That’s left quite a hole in contemporary music.

Saw the Pogues and Kirsty at the NEC late 80s… mesmerising chemistry between them in that song (she was on her bike and pedalling hard to maintain a gap, he was hammered). Musically, very tight nonetheless.
