Hello Everyone ,

I am just after some advice, My Chim is in the garage, nothing unusual there, but this time one of brackets that holds the rear diff in place has broken. Obviously this will need to be replaced and my garage have asked me to source the parts for this. I am aware the are two types either GKN or BTR?

Is it easy to tell which is which as they don't won't to strip out the whole diff is possible to find this and can they replace all the brackets by just dropping the diff rather than fully removing it?

Any help would be gratefully received?

I'm no expert when it comes to this, but as far as I'm aware the BTR diffs should have BTR stamped on the bottom (well raised lettering to be precise). Either yours will or won't so will give you the answer.

Definitely worth looking at the body, as mine was refurbed by Grantura by the previous owner, and he had them put a later backplate on for easier access to drain/fill plugs. It's a GKN diff, I believe with a BTR backplate - which doesn't sound logical without adaption, but I am sure it's a GKN diff with GKN internals.

Early GKN finned rear cover had side filler (better access) thats what you now have , after circa 93> went to a rear filler (worse) BTR and GKN rear cover not interchangeable

OP, do check that the bolts holding the bracket to the differential are long enough...my experience of why the carrier breaks, is that by changing differentials, and rear brackets, TVR part numbers R0080 to R0085...(this is a link to the picture items https://powersperformance.co.uk/store/filter/categ... ) the mounting bolts do not get changed to cater for the boss on the bracket and they strip the thread out of the rear casing.
