Sometime in the next couple of weeks Autosport will publish their 2023 F1 review. As ever this will include their drivers’ top 10.

A clue to their verdict comes from their rolling top 10 that is published after every GP - but the annual verdict is never identical to this.

So predictions please, I’m going with :

1. Ver.
2. Nor.
3. Alo.
4. Ham.
5. Lec.
6. Alb.
7. Pia.
8. Rus.
9. Sai.
10. Tsu.

Have we got to guess what Autosport would say, since that's not always the prevailing narrative and can be influenced by how much the writers like the driver! laugh

Anyhow. Feel free to disagree with

1) Verstappen. I don't like him. I think he cant race wheel to wheel at a good enough level. But he's been utterly dominant this year in that car and destroyed his 2nd tier team mate at a level we havent seen since Michael obliterated Rubens
2) Hamilton. The car is junk and he very nearly got 2nd place overall.
3) Sainz - Having to race and also do the team strategy since the team are constantly "checking" puts him up here.
4) Piastri - Out performed Norris and won a Sprint race.
5) Albon - Car is junk, but on the right track, was into Q3. Pretty much team leader, since Sargent was fairly hopeless.
6) Alonso - Dragged good performances from a duff car, but couldnt maintain it
7) LeClerc. Snatched defeat from the jaws of victory far too often!
8) Tsunoda - Outperformed the (over rated ) Ricciardo. Made Perez get the squeaky bum time for his future!
9) Lawson - Zero prep time, yet again showed Ricciardo how its done! Hopefully get his shot
10) Russell. Solid results, but never looked like he was going to do anything spectacular.

I'd put Albon in a comfortable 4th place - carrying a whole team single handedly to 7th in the he WCC is no mean feat.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but

Qualifying head-to-head: Norris 15-7 Piastri
Race head-to-head: Norris 17-5 Piastri
Championship: Norris 6th (205 points), Piastri 9th (97 points)

I may well be wrong! laugh

I just meant Lando has been in F1 for what, 5 years now? And Pisatri has been around for 1. And he won a race before Lando albeit a Sprint. I want to see Norris stop the dicking about so much next year. Cut all the bouffant hair off, train like a demon in the gym. 100% focus. Come back like Rosberg did that year. Become the bd that wins races, not the nice guy that finishes top 6 and has a laugh with the other drivers.

You have got to think that he saved Williams this season. If they put another Latifi in the car they would be tenth overall with 2 or 3 points.

How much in prize money is the difference between 10th and 7th, 30 million dollars?

That’s a very good point and was in the back of my mind when I started this thread.

Also can they resist featuring that guy who finished 2nd in the WDC in their top 10 ?

Fewer than half the points of his teammate and 20-2 on head to head. Only Sargeant has worse teammate stats this year.

Perez was dire all season…. No consistency and his brain was shot….

You could have put Stroll or Sargeant in the 2nd Red Bull and they’d have come second in the Drivers Championship

Interestingly 2023 has been a season of so many under-performers. I reckon there are at least 8 drivers who are unlikely to appear on anyone’s top 10 list.

On the bubble I’d put Gasly & Hulkenberg.

Lawson would have made my top 10 if he’d seen out the season at AT and continued to perform.

Funnily enough, despite all the drivel you'll read on any thread mentioning Lewis, a driver's hair style has zero impact on their performance.

Not entirely sure. If he shaved his head for example to a number 2 all over, cut out the larking about. He'd probably do better and instil a bit more steel in his rivals. As it stands they know he's just a big kid playing. They don't take him 100% seriously. I want to see him calling the other drivers wkers and getting his elbows out a bit more. Telling the media he's not interested in their BS and he's here to win! Absolute bds win titles. And he's not one.... yet

Does he want to remembered as a champ or title contender? Or that nice Lando who never won a race?

You are Arnold Judas Rimmer AICMFP.

Seriously though, suggesting that Piastri has outperformed Norris is a bad joke. Norris kept Verstappen on his toes in Brazil, was close enough for Sainz to use him tactically in Singapore, and has a Hamilton-esque knack for going much faster than Piastri in races whilst keeping his tyres alive.

No doubt Verstappen is driver of the season. Alonso/Norris very close behind. And IMO everyone else has been a good chunk behind them - either lacking consistency or making mistakes. The Merc has been obviously difficult to drive, so I'd probably put Hamilton & Russell just ahead of the Ferrari drivers. Piastri and Albon would be in the top 10 as well, hard to judge Albon because Sargeant was so poor. I don't think anyone other than those guys really stood out. I'll go with Lawson though - thrown in at the deep end and performed just as well as Ricciardo IMO.

And no, Perez was nowhere near top 10 this year. He was like 2021-spec Bottas and very fortunate that the RB was so fast.

1. Ver
2= Alo

Train like a demon? Watch the Qatar post race cool down room footage. Piastri was half dead lying down on the floor, Lando was seemingly unaffected.

Interesting to see that everyone’s top 10 just about features permutations of the same 10 drivers.

If we ran a poll for the bottom 5 I suspect we’d have the same consistency, leaving Ocon, Bottas etc filling the sandwich.
