Yeah recall him regularly talking about track days with his son and his 991.2 GT3RS WP. I think he also had an 812 SF and a stealthed up GT4RS too? Seemed like he was doing well and bought his cars to drive. To be honest the Porsche section is hard work sometimes though. Given the exceptionally fortunate position a lot in here are in, the squabbling about the most petty ste is pretty tragic laugh

Edit: Sorry, implying Taff had got fed up of that, not that he was partaking in it.

I can confirm he's fine. Still enjoying his cars and track days.

Probaly not all the growing nummber of 20mph speed limits round his way though.

Whilst we're looking for missing persons, what happened to IREvans ? Seem to recall Yellow knew him outside the confines of PH ? Any idea Paul ?

As for why Taffy left the building ? I'm not in the least bit surprised. He always seemed an upbeat, pleasant and down to earth contributor, yet I watched him being "savaged" a few times, by several regular contributors on here over the last 12 months or so, and was left thinking, I wouldn't hang around on this forum if people choose to behave in that manner.

I posted this on here last week :

The modern public hand wringing, choosing spec/buying by committee was very much the exception on the PH Porsche forum 15 plus years ago. Now it’s the tedious norm unfortunately.

Don’t get me wrong, if someone was making their first foray into the Porsche world, this place was (and still can be) brilliant, with lots of really useful contributions from very knowledgeable owners and/or former owners, but there was never any talk or indeed 200+ page threads on resale values, the best spec for resale, the best trim specs etc etc.
They were halcyon days ... and this thread is as you’ve rightly highlighted, a brief and welcome break from all that nonsense.

Of course some will say, if you’re not interested in those threads, don’t read them, and to them I say, I don’t, but because of the dearth of threads such as this one (the thread where this was originally posted) this forum is now slim pickings for the many real enthusiasts that used to reside on here.
Generally speaking the PH Porsche forum is a shadow of it's former self (some may say unrecognisable) and populated by a very different demographic to those of 10-15 years ago.

I genuinely think we should have a values thread and a trim/specifications thread, and rather than these topics derailing so many threads, we should all self-moderate threads, and if you want to talk values of any Porsche, you do so on the value thread, likewise if you want to discuss resale trim/specs, they too would have a specific thread, and it would probably make a good reference point for those wanting information on those specific topics, rather than having to trawl through countless pages/posts in numerous other threads.

What do others think ?

P.S I presume the two individuals whose posts were deleted from this thread, have been thrown in the PH sin bin for their transgressions ?

There were a lot of posts removed from the topic to which he last posted ... other than the very last to say that he could no longer attend the Nurburgsing ?? meet.

Apologies for the spelling !

Self unware are two words that spring to mind reading some of this.....so so much green eyed envy displayed by the illumanati PH oracles do not blame Taffy. Hes got some lovely cars. Enjoy smile

I ventured onto the Porsche forum to learn more about the marque and get owners first hand views and opinions (I was never a prolific poster on PH anyway).

I’m happy to lurk but agreed, some of the infighting/jealousy/pettiness is really rather sad to see.

Thank you to those that have answered my questions, it’s much appreciated. Back to the research and the hope of my first Porsche soon.

I fully agree. While acknowledging the market downturn's impact and the importance of information, it seems like we're stuck at a cruise dinner table where a couple endlessly discusses their budget-friendly holiday deal for the same holiday with everyone present.

The main market threads are often dominated by a select few seemingly motivated by a vendetta against Porsche or dissatisfaction with a salesman, rather than having a genuine stake in the game.

Introducing a dedicated Porsche valuation thread could provide a space for them to delve into their subject without alienating those who simply want to share their positive experiences and enjoyment of cars with like-minded individuals. Currently, the Pistonheads Porsche forums are notably pessimistic, potentially causing us to lose contributors who bring positive perspectives to the community.

The values thing does get tedious.

I am far more interested in what people [i]do[i/] with their cars. Whether that's polishing them and attending car & coffe meets, road tours, track days and even modification. The superficial sort of buy a car for status - bragging rights and a few Insta pics - is such a cul de sac.

I jacked my GT3 up onto axle stands last weekend, to get the wheels refurbished. I totally forgot how I'd done it and, after a bit of searching, found the answer on 911uk.

FWIF for anyone interested:
  1. Try not to get squashed or mahsed
  2. Chock front and rear wheels
  3. Jack under rear jack point (the one just ahead of rear wheel)
  4. Axle stand under the front jack point
  5. Blocks of wood under rear wheel
  6. Repeat above on other side of car
  7. Put jack under rear of car and use suspension cross-mount to raise
  8. Put axle stands under both rear jack points
  9. Lower rear onto stands
The last parts are the ones that sketch me out a bit, but it does work.

The big technical posts on pistonheads 10-15 years ago was IMS,RMS,Borescoring and chocolate engines.
Was always interesting to read Hartech posts and solutions!
The reason was it was relevant at the time like the value thing is now!
But if you are not interested in a particular post you don’t have to visit and complain and make judgements about others. But do agree about irrelevant threads to posts on a totally different subject.
Over the years you see a lot of posters come and go for what ever reasons and Taffy66 is no different.

The problem is that very few people actually seem to drive their cars anymore, so they don't have anything else to talk about.

Why is the value thing relevant , this forum was about using/enjoying cars , the value thing as you call it has absolutely no relevance to that

It’s worse than that.

There are plenty of owners who spend time and money having their cars painstakingly prepared, detailed, PPF’d, carefully parked under a silk covers, in a dehumidified, heated, alarmed, garages, connected to a trickle charger…… who can’t face taking them out on our filthy, pothole infested, gridlocked roads….. cry

Wrong smile They're prepared, detailed, PPF'd (the complete car, obviously) and then ceramic coat the PPF, which protects the PPF, which protects the lacquer, which in turn protects the base coat, which protects the primer/Ecoat which protects the metal ... tongue out

Nothing good lasts for ever. PH Porsche forum was past it's 'best before date' many years ago, and the slow but inexorable departure of longstanding Porsche enthusiast users has been replaced with a new breed of poster who i find little common ground/interest with.

C'est la vie. Now back to debt, depreciation and doom.

Yes sad isn’t it Though I admit I rarely take my Spyder out in the rain - mainly because I can’t drive it like I want to because of the slippery roads - the car has more talent than I do !! I do drive it as often as possible though I even put 28000 miles on a 911 Speedster back in the day - horror of horrors !!

I also find it ironic that Porsche spends multi million pounds developing their “ halo “ cars such as 918 , 959 etc to give them stellar performance coupled with reliability and then most of them spend their lives in garages as “ pieces of art”/ investments - may as well produce something that looks like a hyper car and put 1.0 litre engine in it. The vast majority of owners would never know ! Oh well - each to their own I guess!

Spend any time on any of the 996 and 997 Facebook groups and you can't miss an IMS/RMS/Borescoring post on virtually a daily basis. People just don't tend to use forums in the same way these days.

There still seem plenty of enthusiasts out there, who are enjoying their Porsches and not just parking them in the garage worried about the values, as some would suggest. At every Porsche event I go to, Cars and Coffee meets and the like, there are loads of guys out in their Porsches, enjoying driving them and meeting up with like minded people. Yes a lot of them are second cars, with something more 'sensible' as the daily, but I think that always was the case. I love driving mine and take them out as often as I can!
