Hi,

Son has a new job and will be travelling 25-30k a year mixture of business and commute so looking for something with a budget of £12-15k for a 19/20 plate.

So far he's looking at about £3k insurance for Ford Focus 1.5 TDCi, Skoda Karoa 1.6 TDCi or Skoda Scala 1.6 TDi.
If you look at 1.5 Insignia or Octavia the insurance starts jumping to £4.5-£5k

Toyota Corolla 1.8 Hybrid Auto mid spec is £3.5k and your looking at £17k. This is my recommendation so far as the Toyota warranty will cover it to 100K.

Volvo 1.6 D2 was an option but they come with the Powershift gearboxes which Im sure are the same as Ford.

Is there anything else sensible for high mileage, that cheap to insure and run?
or anyone recommend any lease deals that include insurance for an 18 year old?

Kind Regards

Barry

All the above are good options which you can extend the warranty (if they're not AUC in which case you'll get a year anyway) on them.

Insurance will be the key,

Remember with the warranty from Toyota/Kia it's 100k or 10/7 years which ever comes first if your son is going to be 25-30k a year the warranty will run out in about three yeard from purchase.

Volvo C30 Diesel. Lots of lower mileage cars at much less than your budget which should be cheap to insure for an 18-year-old. I think they look great too!
