Does anyone know any good engineering books which relate to F1/motorsport? I'm really interested in aero, mechanical, chemistry (fuels & batteries) and even materials science (carbon fibre, tyres/rubber). Engines and exhausts too.

I have the Four-Stroke-Performance-Tuning book:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Four-Stroke-Performance-T...

which is great for engines and exhausts, and would love similar books.

I'm aware how mathematical it can get, particularly aero. I'm not after books full of second order derivatives and multiple integrals. Looking for books which relate it back to the car design.

Try “How to build a car “ by the master himself Adrian Newey.
He knows a thing or two on building F1 cars that have dominated the sport.

I was given that book. I was conned. I thought it very poor. Perhaps I had too high expectations of revelations from the best designer of my time. Perhaps it was just written to get some money.

I gave the book to my local library.

I found Carrol Smith's stuff excellent.

Bit old now, but the basics still apply.

I thought it was a great read. Were you expecting it to be a Haynes manual for the RB6?

It was okay if you thought of it as “How to build a team”, and took lessons that could be useful at work; but an engineering book it was not. Still a good insight into the mind of someone who’s spent more than three decades right at the top of his profession.
