Red Bull approached Lewis Hamilton?
Discussion
Surprised there is no comment on the story of Red Bull / Lewis Hamilton: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/67510692
Both sides denying they made first contact.
I guess it is not unusual for teams to approach other drivers - they need a succession plan after all, and I guess it is not unusual for drivers to approach any team doing a better job than their current team (in this case, somewhat smashing them out of the park)
If HAM ended up driving for Red Bull, the conflict it would cause on here would be... significant

Other sites cite that it was his dad... who isn't a representative and so both sides can be broadly truthful...
Who's dad?Lewis had an old phone at home and checked it months after CH sent him a message, it was in the middle of his negotiations with Merc.
It's classic throw a grenade into the opposition, he just cocked up on which number to use.
Or Lewis saw it, ignored it and kept quiet until it was worth throwing a grenade back to destabilise RB during winter break.

Surely that should be 'Lewis said he had an old phone...' Lewis had an old phone at home and checked it months after CH sent him a message, it was in the middle of his negotiations with Merc.

We don't know the truth of who said what, when and to whom
I suspect it was six of one and half a dozen of the other.
Red bull would be foolish not to talk to top line drivers about to be out of contract
Hamilton would be foolish not to talk to other top line teams when he is about to be out of contract.
Doesn’t really matter who fluttered their eyelashes first.

Would have been fun seeing him go up against Max in the same car. Personally I think Ferrari would have been a backwards step.
Yes Mercedes have been off the boil but Lewis is still going to end up 3rd in the championship which is about as good as you can get with the current pace of the RB.

CH just stirring the pot.
It would have been fun, but never happening.
100% this, if only to try and destabilise the Mercedes/Hamilton contract talks that were going on at the time.It would have been fun, but never happening.
As Lewis said (if you believe him), Christian texted “let’s get together at the end of the season and talk”.
So yeah, Sir Lewis Hamilton and his team of highly paid advisors are going to halt talks worth £50M per annum to wait and see what he has to say at the end of the year when there might not even be a drive left to take in F1?
Pull the other one Christian
