I see that this car has moved between a few owners recently - What is your reason for selling?

Since coming to the UK in 2015, we understand the 1st UK owner did a lot of the race prep (reportedly £20k on the Eligi built engine alone) and then successfully campaigned the car on the track after which it was acquired by the guys at Salvage Hunters. They made a lot of the cosmetic improvements. 3rd owner was actually a mechanic that worked on the show and wanted to take it rallying but realised it was more set up for tarmac track action. We then acquired it to add to our Fiat Spider collection as we have restored several 124 Spiders and then made some further improvements (mainly electrical) to reliability and the intention was always to move it on to someone with the time to take it to the track and shows (as we have done this year) especially as it road legal with MOT so can drive to and from events.

Hi,
Remember seeing the programme and after watch that wondering if the soft top actually opens.
There are no pictures that show it so can you confirm its status?
Laurie.

Hi Laurie,
Very good question! It was one that I had too. The front bar of the custom cage does prevent the catches from operating in “race mode” which in my view was an oversight by the cage builders but was probably done to maintain dimensions for FIA regs. However, the front section is quite easily removable allowing the catches to open and so should allow it open for summer open top action. The roof itself was replaced so is in perfect order and the mechanism itself is also in good order. We have restored several 124 spiders so are familiar with these and although we haven’t had it open ourselves I don’t see any issues with it working. If you are seriously interested in the car we can take out the front section and check, although this won’t be until next week as I am currently away on business.

Sure, we have one in build currently which is a 1981 2.0 special 50th anniversary edition of only 1000 which is in gold and we have just acquired another 1982 example. Both are rust free US imports. My email address (not sure if can post this here) is rich@fitzproltd.com or if that doesn’t cone up I think there will be an alias via the PH site.
