Hi All
I have a BMW F82 M4 Comp with the ultimate pack and I have recently fitted the MMI box and seems okay, I am wondering whether I made the right decision or whether I should have gone for the Android screen now, my car has the wider screen as standard.

What are peoples views on on the two?
I know this is probably a debate on which is better but wondered on the advantages of each?

I am guessing the Android screen is basically a standalone unit and for maps etc to work maybe have to tether to your actual mobile, but I am also guessing you cant use it as an android auto screen?

My brother installed a droid UK screen into his 2015 4GC. The screen has a sharp resolution (relative to stock) but seems laggy to inputs. However if you use voice assistant, it should be okay....

I decided to unlock the wireless carplay on my 2017 3 series and the performance is much snappier.

The spec of the processor/ram must make all the difference on the screens.

Not sure what the options are for the F82, but in my E91 I have an Andream screen which is basically a CarPlay (or Android equivalent) interface, ie no full Android to run standalone maps etc, you need to link to your phone for it to do anything more than very basic music player etc.

The reason I went for this was because it's much quicker than the full Android screens (it's pretty much booted and connected to my phone with the CarPlay screen displayed by the time I've started the engine), touchscreen response is instant, and the wireless CarPlay interface is built-in whereas I think some of the full Android units need an add-on which increases complexity and potential sources of problems.

The MMI boxes probably work fine, but I much prefer having the touchscreen for CarPlay. Using the iDrive wheel is fine, but sometimes it's a pain to scroll through all the objects on the screen to reach something you want to click on. I use the wheel for very simple tasks (browsing tracks etc) but anything else I use the touchscreen.

I have recently put a 10.25” Android 12 screen in my F31 330i. I wanted CarPlay as I have it my other cars. It boots very quickly and there is no lag. The CarPlay connection is wireless. The quality of the screen resolution is also superb. It’s early days, but seems to be a fab bit of kit and has brought the car back up to date.

Is it for android auto?

I thought the Ultimate pack cars were the later ones - 2019 onwards.
The headunit in those cars should all be compatible with Carplay and BMW apps like Spotify etc - but not android auto I dont think.

Any of the android screens I've seen are laggy. The mmi boxes seem a bit better, those would be my pick as they keep the original screen.

Do the Android screens have a light sensor in them?

So the screen automatically dims/brightens as the cabin gets darker/lighter?

That is what annoys me with most aftermarket screens, having to manually adjust it constantly.
