I am trying to convince myself to get a 1.5 ND, rather a new kitchen or new windows in the house. It’s a very first world problem.

However I can’t decide if it’s worth seeking out a special edition, either the Icon or R or just get one with the bits I like (heated seats, information system , sat nav, as I want to run Car play etc)

Any thoughts, thanks

Why would you get a 1.5 when the 2.0 exists?

They don't seem to offer much different but sometimes are available in a nicer colour, they always seem to then put hideous seat colours in!

My mother ran a 1.5 Icon for 7 years, absolutely loved it (having come from a NA). It was a revvy engine and lovely to drive, in a fluent enjoyable at sensible speeds kinda way.

That said, when I came to buy an ND, I went for a 2.0 ND2, as whilst an MX5 is "not about the power", I enjoyed having the extra grunt and wanted to offset the additional weight of an RF.

So, if looking at an early ND, I'd certainly consider the 1.5, but for ND2 era, I would recommend the 2.0.

Ref special editions, I always admired the 30th AE, but most of them are just aesthetics. Buy the one you like the look of, and carplay is a fairly simple add-on if you want to do it later.

Cheers. I think will try and get the 1.5 nd2. I am highly unlikely to use the extra grunt
