Is there now an entire generation of grown up boys on the genetic scrap heap?? My recent experience makes me glad I am tucked up with Mrs Shirepro:

On Saturday, in exchange for a curry and watching the England game on his TV I agreed to 'go out on the town 'with my brother in law and his mates. He is 42 and single, as are 2 of his mates. The other two were married but out on licence. All the single men have women on the edges of their life who use them for transport, childcare, as financial crutches or occassional sex partners (nothing wrong in that!).

So six, 40 odd year men out in the town centre on a Saturday night. I soon realised why they are single.

We ended up in every bar where you couldn't hear youself think, the women were all 19 years old and dressed like they were part time Anne Summers models who had forgotten to change before going home. We ended up drinking like chav-girls (bottles, I ask you!).

The night's entertainment revolved around who could break wind and then slip away to leave the others with the blame, and learing over girls half their age. Any woman of their own age was a 'swamp donkey' who they avoided at all costs.

Then it was negotiations with the door staff at the local lap dancing club for cheap entry (which oddly failed) before a taxi home.

I reckon there's big money to be made in a 'nightclub' type environment for over 30s. I have a large group of very successful female friends aged from 30 upwards. None of them are Swamp Donkeys, they're successful, no children, blah, blah, blah. And yet, they complain of the same thing as your friends. When we go out, the fellas who are old enough to remember Live Aid (the original) have mostly let themselves go, they've got big beer bellys, few if any teeth left, the majority of them are still wearing the same jeans that they bought in 1990, and if they do happen to be half decent, they seem to think it's funny to hold farting competitions at the bar and walk away, leaving their mates to take the flak for the horrendous stench they've managed to produce.

These men also seem more interested in the girls who are young enough to be their daughters and in some cases likely to get them registered as a sex offender, rather than the 35 year old woman standing next to them!

So you would regard Shirepro's experience as a GOOD time?

We need to encourage more "grown up" women to go to civilised pubs. (not that mrs Beard would be pleased if they did )

Sorry - I know I shouldn't (especially being a girlie) but I do find this very funny. One of the lads in my office occasionally stands behind my desk, farts and then legs it closing the door behind him.

Basically what we are saying is that anyone decent is taken by the time they reach 30 and the over 30's are far too picky

Exactly!! I sound like my mother sometimes (which is very disturbing).

I love going out clubbing, but I hate being surrounded by people that I am old enough to have given birth to. And I've got lots of friends (male and female) who feel the same way (obviously I realise the men couldn't have given birth, before some smartarse points that out). Alot of people I know over 30 wouldn't be seen dead in a nightclub because it makes them feel old, but that doesn't mean they don't WANT to go out and boogie their little socks off

As far as their actions go; juvenile? Definitely. Sad? Depends on whether this a the regular plan for a night out or a one off/rare occurance.
As for calling women their own age swamp donkeys, from the kind of establishment its sounds that you may have been in (obviously I'm guessing here), you may have been looking at chav 30-40 year old women, who probably haven't aged that well (seeing as a good many female chavs are grandmothers by the time they hit 35 ) and are trying to dress their mutton up as lamb. In which case maybe the epithet 'swamp donkey' wasn't to wide of the mark!

On the other hand, maybe you're completely right and they are sad losers...where's the stormtrooper 'Loser' .gif when you need it?

I don't see it as a good time myself - but why pass up an opportunity to take the piss?
