MRSA in Bupa Hospitals?
Discussion
I had a hip replaced at a private hospital two weeks ago. Before I was admitted they swabbed me for MRSA and explained that if I was a natural carrier (apparently a certain percentage of the population are) they would isolate me upon admission. I did ask about the incidence of contracting MRSA in the hospital and was told that they have not yet had a case.
My room and bathroom were cleaned daily.

Well I must be in the 70% - they didn’t isolate me!
I do know of someone who contracted MRSA without the assistance of an NHS hospital. She had an insect bite on her leg that went a bit iffy and eventually her GP realised that it was MRSA. Fortunately she is over it now but she was unwell for quite some time.

I watched one of those how clean is your house programmes the other day.
The one where the two old bids pull faces and sniff poo.
Anyway they went to this absolutely discustingly horid hovel. rotting food everywhere and worse rubish all over could hardly walk in the rooms.
The owner was a nurse

Anyone know of any MRSA infections picked up in BUPA hospitals? And how they compare to normal NHS centres?
MRSA can be picked up, from most places as a huge number of people in the community carry the bug, as a natural organism that lives on the skin, or inside the nose.
Yes, one can get MRSA from private hospitals, and it does happen, but not as publicised as the NHS. Indeed it happens in the US, who have a problem with this bug due to overuse of antibiotics.

I saw this episode to...
it was utterley disgusting...and then some..
Dave's been constantly checked for MRSA and other bugs while he's been in intensive care, they found it in his nose but they say that it was naturally there and they keep an eye on it with regular swabs and cultures.
I wish the press would report more on the countless people who survive MRSA. When Dave went into hospital I was terrified about MRSA, and it still scares me now, but meeting a lovely chap called Nigel helped us all to put the bug into perspective.
He went into the BRI with a shattered ankle, which they then fixed and put his lower leg into a cage. He developed MRSA in one of the wounds from the pin and was very poorly for a time, the leg swelled up like a balloon. However, 2 weeks later he was charging up and down the corridors exercising, and the nurses kept losing him for a couple of hours at a time when he kept nipping over the road to the pub. A leg in a cage is a great way to get free pints he said!
I liked Nigel, he made us smile when things were really bleak.

Right the friend recently has had an op..
The wound has not healed and remains infected.
loads of swabs taken, 8 weeks after op and after 5 courses of Antibiotics they finally tell him its MRSA related.
Hes now on Cyproxin and Bactroban (sp) cream... Any thoughts from the medics whether these will have any chance of shifting it?
