What is everyone's opinion on the best road car porsche currently make? I take delivery 29th of mine

Clearly it's not the 911 T (992), that's a better option for those who can't get / afford the 911 GT3 touring.

Personally I think the Cayman GTS 4.0 is a better sports car, the 911 is too big these days (and expensive).


I can't afford a 992 at all, so you're doing better than me...

The Carrera S is a better car than the T in every measurable way despite the parity in price in the used market - unless you like decals

I'd be taking a 718 Spyder RS

Naturally Aspirated
Mid Engined
Can take the roof off.

My dad owned a 992 when they first launched - at the time, I had a 987.2 Boxster S.
I genuinely found the Boxster to be the nicer drive - even though objectively speaking it was worse in every possible way.

I think for the everyday driver the 992 T is pretty much perfect for todays road use. You just have to read the reviews to realise that it’s a bit special. The GT3 though has the engine. If you could actual walk into a dealership and order either I personally would of gone for a GT3 ( we might soon be able to do that ) because I only have my 911 as a weekend car but after owning over 10 911’s since the 997 I really do think these will have a classic status . especially with a manual box.

Personally I’d take the current 992 Turbo S over any other Porsche currently for sale at the moment, I think the GT3 RS is way too lairy.

From the above video I’d take the GTS, seems like just the right balance. It’s hard to believe that the GT3 ‘only’ has just over 500 bhp.

For the dedicated enthusiast the GT3 would be up there, but for most people it wouldn’t be (as evidenced by the ridiculous number of owners for so many of them). Also, many would find the engine lacks punch compared to a GTS in most road situations. Any carrera can be modified to be like a GTS (or better) relatively easily. With the 992s though, the base carrera doesn’t have the manual option as it would have impinged upon the fairly tenuous USPs of the T.

So many people buy a GT3 based on the hype thinking it will be their ultimate car, but there is a reason why they have so many owners, it really isn’t a car for everybody for road use. Too compromised. Same can be said for the GTS now.

But there is a 911 for everybody. My OPC has bought back loads of GTS due to people hating the ride, and they’ve bought back Turbo S as people found them too fast. But other people will love those cars.

I had a 992S and I bloody loved it, regret selling it. I’m now buying a T as even the S was too fast for the road.

718 GT4/Spyder is a great value road car and rapid enough....approx 85% a GT3 at half the cost.

Ran a manual 991.2 T from new good car but nothing special overall and way less involving as a drivers car v the Cayster GT4 /Spyder.

Main problem with the 992 T is due to its vast price rises now offers poor value for money.

Christ this is exactly me. I had 992 s and had an order in for the GTS. Went to the driver day at Silverstone and went out on the roads instead of the track with the instructor. It’s a great car no doubt but with a pdk box it was just too fast, too powerful to actually enjoy driving day to day for me.

I went out for 3 hours today all around Elan Valley ( had a lovely GT3 Touring overtake me ) driving and enjoyed the T.. How anybody in a Turbo can actually utilise the performance is beyond me. Seriously how do you actually use the performance on the roads ?

For me, as above - but it depends what you’re in it for. Standing-by for a flaming, but the vast majority of halo 911s are completely the wrong tool for most owners, who wouldn’t see which way a well-driven base car went.

I recently had a few days with a 992 S and while it was thoroughly excellent in every measurable way, I keep thinking that as a road car, 992s are all hysterically fast, so as someone who wants to use more of the rev-range without getting into serious trouble, I think my ideal road 911 is still from the NA 991.1 era. I’m in it for smiles and enjoyment, and I just couldn’t find myself having fun in the 992 on the road.

However, as more of an effortless performance mile-muncher, a base or T 992 fits the bill nicely.

I agree with AV for once but surely the Cayster Gts is a better road car than the GT4/Spyder and better value for the money being about £20k cheaper! There only main difference between the GT4 and GTS is the suspension which some decent coilovers could give the Gts the advantage as an all rounder ( track/roadcar) GT4 touring perhaps?

This was my reason for going for the T. Base only available in PDK. S & GTS to fast for uk roads. GT3 is a track car 1st road car 2nd and the touring (I love the look) is a wingless GT3 but to hard and when you get get to peak revs you in risk of losing your licence.

GT4 and spyder are no longer available to order. The spyder RS would be unbearable on a longer road trip.

So just imagine, if they made the base car a tad lighter, fitted it with a manual gearbox and limited slip differential…..

Perhaps you’d call it a T as Porsche have done.
