I'm looking at a 2021 Citroen, private sale.

Seller thinks the PO 'probably' serviced it, but doesn't have paperwork to prove (to be fair, the dealer he got it from may have shredded it).

Is the seller able to ring up their / any Citroen dealer and have them confirm it over the phone? Or is there some kind of online portal he could log into to check?

I assume that due to GDPR there's no way I could check on a car I don't own, is there an easy way for the owner to confirm service history without going into a dealer in person?

If you have the VIN and reg and you know the servicing dealer you can call them and they can verify what service was done.

This bothers me with my Mini. No service book but I’ve verified it has a full service history with the local dealer but they wouldn’t print it out, so not sure how that can be backed up whenever sale time might be. Online history seems fairly useless without a publicly accessible portal

Don’t think GDPR comes into it. I bought a BMW with no service history evidence, but found which main dealer serviced it from the lease company and called them direct. I just gave them the car reg and they told me dates, mileage and what it had done at each visit.

Obviously no use when selling as I could have made it all up, but peace of mind anyway.

I bought a 2006 325i back in 2018 and rang the dealers who had put stamps in the book. Discovered it had been serviced by one of them in December 2018 so I took the book in and they added the stamp which was great. smile

All this online stuff is useless if it can't be accessed, but I think on newer BMWs it's stored on a hard drive in the car which seems a better idea.
