A possible sprint solution
Discussion
Reading a fair bit about how the F1 circus are discussing the sprint format ,
Suggestions of a reverse grid ,based on the shootout ,don't really make much sense , i'd imagine everyone trying to be behind everyone else ,
Something that occurred to me is , how about one qualifying , like a normal non sprint race weekend , but on the Saturday morning , then the sprint in the afternoon using a reverse of the morning qually positions .?
This way , they are still going to try to win in the qually, because its deciding the main race on Sunday start positions , which has by far the most points , and its gives us the fun of watching them all try to get through the pack on Saturday .
regards
robert.

F1 is and should always be a meritocracy. Any artificial jeopardy inserted into proceedings (such as reversing grid positions) devalues the technical and sporting spirit for the Formula.
I've said it many times; F1 can be entertaining but should never be entertainment for the sake of it.
The only thing that could possibly be used to shake the normal order up is to do away with qualifying altogether and use bingo balls to determine grid positions. But this removes a principal challenge of the sport that can sometimes be as intriguing as the race.

First practice Friday AM
Parc Ferme active
Sprint qualy Friday PM
Sprint race Saturday AM
Parc Ferme released
Parc Ferme active for
Main Race qualy Saturday PM
Main race Sunday
That’s my thoughts. If we are going to give them two bites at the cherry might as well make it worthwhile. Points adjusted for Sprint race to top 10 as well.

Replace the word F1 in your post with “Grand Prix” and I agree.,I've said it many times; F1 can be entertaining but should never be entertainment for the sake of it.

I don’t have an issue with there being a second type of F1 race as long as it has nothing to do with the F1 Grand Prix WDC.

I don't really understand where this came from. There's nothing to say what isn't working. Seems like a news story about nothing.
The whole Friday qualy for Sundays race is the bit that isn’t working Frimley111R said:

The whole Friday qualy for Sundays race is the bit that isn’t working Apparently the circuits have to pay a lot more to host a sprint weekend, and the promotor of COTA was reported to say after last week that he wouldn't bother doing it again because Saturday attendance was down this year compared to last, so he was paying more to get lower ticket returns.

The whole Friday qualy for Sundays race is the bit that isn’t working I don't mind the sprints but it does need some tweaking.
I don't think there is a solution that doesn't have some compromise, whether that's how it's scheduled or how it affects the teams we will wait to see but it's probably going to be the former.
I like having the Sprint Quali and Sprint Race on the same day. It packages it all up nice into one quick thing that gets done but it screws the timetable with GP quali on Fridays unless we start dropping quali sessions for things like race finish orders or reverse grid.
Those are quite unpopular and I've always disliked this Q1, Q2, Q3 format so I'd personally bring back one-shot for sprint and a short timed old skool session for the GP.
Fri - Practice (Parc Ferme Active)
Sat - Sprint One-Shot Quali / Sprint Race (Parc Ferme Close)
Sun - (Parc Ferme Active) Quali / Grand Prix
I'll wait for the burns/criticism ...

I think they should just sack off F1 on Fridays and give everyone an extra days rest.
Instead…….make Friday “Drivers Day” which is the day they do all their media commitments, and interacting with the crowd etc. But also…….get a local single car formula in, the more eclectic the better, and put the drivers in random cars for a qualy session and a race. No pits, no repairs you go with what you have. Mic them up for fun. You could even put some local ex F1 heroes in for giggles. Make it a separate championship and let’s see who copes best.
Saturday- Extended FP1 and Qualy
Sunday- Race
Who’s with me?
