I'm getting my little 91 NA project ready for an MOT. One of the things I'd like to address first is the switch for the rear fog light.

I'll get an OE mazda switch with tell tale light. I'm sure I'll figure out the wiring bit okay but what I'd ideally like to do is use a proper OE connector rather than just female spades which I guess is the norm.

Can anyone tell me where to get a connector (I guess they're used elsewhere on the car too?) and where to buy the terminals/pins?

Thanks in advance.

Actually, while I'm here, I should ask where I can pick up a switched live from the side lights? Wire colour and suitable location to tap into it would be great.

I'm sure on my car the connector was already there, it was just attached to the switch blank.
There is a mod where you can convert one of the reverse lights to a fog, I did it and didn't gave any issues mot time.

I'll have a rummage in case it is taped up somewhere but can't see it. Is your's a UK car? This is a Jap import if that might be the difference.

I added to my above post regarding using the spare offside reverse light as a fog.
You buy a bright red led for it.
It's a common mod, mine passed the mot ok but that's the only grey area.

Thanks. I do indeed have a connector on the blank. Don't know how I missed that. I'll get the multimeter out later but do you know what those cables are? Was hoping there might be an illumination feed and a live switched from the sidelights...

When we bought ours it had a 10 quid Halfords pendant one under the rear bumper. The wife managed to knock around 5 or 6 off. I had changing them down to a fine art. Eventually re-wired it to a light off of E Bay, I think it is a chopper/mobike custom rear light. I wired brake & side together & mounted it on the number plate. Its been there ever since & gets no comment from the MOT tester. The rust underneath does however!

From the diagrams
Red and Red/Black to the switch illumination lamp
Green/Yellow to fog lights
Another Red/Black from light switch

You may have to test the red/blacks to confirm

Fantastic. Thanks both. I will move the fog light to the tail light at some point but now I'm just doing what is needed to get an MOT and it already has a fog light on the rear bumper. That wiring info will be a great help once my switch arrives. Much appreciated.

I cant honestly remember if the green/yellow wire to the fog lights just goes to the fronts if fitted, you may have to run a wire to the back but its not that difficult

Excuse me for asking, but taking the live feed from the sidelights will be a bit dodgy won't it? My thinking being a side light draws 2w on the front and 5w on the rear, so 14w total. A fog light bulb is 21w alone which is a hell of an increase in the wiring and fuse. Or have I missed something (like a relay)?

A 21w lamp draws 1.7 amps so not a huge increase, ive not studied the diagrams but i believe its fed from the headlight circuit via a relay.

Fair enough. I was just concerned there's too much draw. Physics was never my strong point!
