I'm about to buy my first TVR - I'm just trying to decide between the Tuscan 2 and the T350 :cloud9:
I currently own a Fiat Coupe which I bought a few years back as my first "fast" car ;). Unfortunately, they mainly seem to be driven by chavs these days and it takes a lot of fun out of the car when you see badly maintained, poorly driven cars, particularly ones which are fairly rare on the roads. I used to be a fairly active member of a members club, however I stopped going to events due to the amount of silly driving and showing off that began to creep in - I think it's pure luck that there hasn't been a serious accident at one of these meets yet (there have already been a few minor accidents).
Given that you can now pick up a decent TVR for the same amount that I paid for my Coupe, I'm worried that TVRs may go the same way....am I just worrying over nothing?? :confused:

Your profile says you bought your Fiat for 7.5K - don think you can get what I would deem to be a 'decent' TVR for that money. Decent TVRs TEND to start at 13K ish - but the more you pay then GENREALLY you get a newer and therefore BETTER car. So I say £18K is where you start to see the real action. BUT you need more than that for a T350 or Tuscan2.
Chavs and tivs dont last long, they normally have them for a upto 3 months and then back in the autotrader.... seen it many times...
Tivs need sympathy from owners, not owners expecting to get 'their monies worth', they just get moody at you and throw a fit costing a few more pennies to get sorted...

price has nothing to do with this, you're comparing 180mph+ / less than 9 secs to a 100mph cars against 'regular' sports coupes?

Hm, I guess I came across a little wrong in my first post for which I apologise
Gazza - I have two and I paid significantly different amounts for each
The lilac one has had to have a LOT of work done to bring her up to scratch 
SXS - I didn't mean to compare the two makes before - I know they are totally different beasts! My point was more that I know a lot of coupe owners like the look of TVRs and with some marques having fairly low prices, they can look pretty tempting. I know the Tuscan 2 or T350 (which I'm intending to buy new) are a lot more expensive.
A few have already bought TVRs as their next cars, so I guess I'm worried that prices will drop even further and make the TVRs even more accessible. I guess you are right though that most of them will hopefully know their limits
£7.5K will buy a perfectly decent TVR. 
An M series car, either a 1600 or 3000 is well within this price range. £7.5k will buy a restored car that need not be a money pit and will provide happy Tivvering.
It may not be what "others" deem to be decent, but sadly, they've probably never owned one and are just part of the PH brigade that offer perfectly good mis-placed advice.

Trust me, coming from Luton and being around many so called 'chav' and 'ghetto' classed types I know what goes through the majority of minds, Porsches are a more attractive purchase for the ghetto types and chavs just seem to like their bling, so anything from a kitted up civic to a porsche boxster takes their fancy, the odd one or two jump into a tivver, but they dont keep them long, although I have to be honest, there are quite a few chav chimaera drivers out there...
Bottom line is, we shouldnt class society in a 'frown down' attitude and especially pick on these groups, we should try to educate the other classes, and hopefully they will learn to respect their tivvers and not run them into the ground or crash them causing used tiv prices to drop further and insurance premiums to go higher....
the truth of it is, 'real enthusiasts' do exist out there in every class, and regardless of what they do where they live, if they've got some extra pennies to enjoy ferrari smashing performance at mondeo prices, then go for it! Keeping the used tivver market buoyant is a good thing, as long as the cars dont fall into the wrong hands which regardless of classification, are out there in every corner of society, from lawyers to bus shed pencil sharpeners.

You come across as type casting Coupe Owners, when in reality they are a really good bunch of enthusiatic owners who care about the upkeep of their cars. All cars can get into the hands of wrong types, Porsches, Fezzas, TVRs and so on, but that does not classify them as "CHAV" fodder. All of the above mentioned cars I am sure are driven "enthusiastically" at meets and events, but again you cannot categorise them as being in the hands of "Chavs" or the like.
The most important aspect of owning a TVR of any type is to have the income to run it and the passion to look after and maintain it PROPERLY. If you struggled or only just got by with the upkeep of the Coupe, then you will have no chance with the TVR; petrol, insurance, basic TLC as well as the initial outlay will far outweigh anything you have spent on the Coupe.
Best of luck whatever the decision you make.

Actually thats all rubbish, I've just realised why they don't buy them :- TVR's don't have bonnet windscreen squirters that they can stick those pathetic blue lights on to.

I wouldn't worry too much. A genuine chav would have far too much trouble coping with a TVR
However I would have thought as soon as they've decided to get a TVR they've 'evolved' from their chav status and are thus elevated to a higher lifeform
