Dug out an old brochure from 1990 earlier.

Would love to do a resto mod conversion with the B58 engine into an otherwise standard looking example.

It was the E30 325i touring that Edd China did on an early series of WD in the early 2000s that got me hooked on the idea of a BMW touring... Took me quite a few years to get into one laugh

I owned a E30 325i Touring circa 2011.

Not sure why I got rid of it.

They do beg for a modern power train.

I had one at two years old, a 1989 Zinnober red 325i Touring with sports seats, manual gearbox, M Technic suspension and the 15 inch BBS wheels. A superb car, superbly made and ultra reliable.

An E30 325i touring is a lovely thing.

The tourings have generally been better looking than the saloons too, a trend continued into the later generations.

Indeed. I did find the 320i was quite nice too with a lovely engine - not as pokey as the 325i but turbine smooth and willing to use all its rpm.

I had the E36 (323iA) and E46 (320d) Tourings as well. The E36 323i auto was lovely, the E46 less so although it had the wrong engine really. It needed to be a 328i to haul it along.

Tourings FTW.

My tourings so far have been an e39 530d, e36 328i manual and an e46 330i also manual.
The e46 was my favourite, wish I still had it.

I generally prefer the Touring models.

Previous car was an E46 330D M-Sport Touring. 6 speed manual too.
Current car is an F31 340i Touring. Only car I've had from new. Possibly the last.

Just to stay with the E30 love, I've also got a 1991 325i Sport for high days and holidays. Owned that since 1996.

Yeah, i've had three as well:

2002 E46 325i in Silver - sold must be 8 years ago

2008 E91 330d Msport in silver - still own, but now for sale

2016 F31 335d Msport in sapphire metalic - still own, no plans to change.

If I had to name the one thing on all three that has been a godsend on dozens of trips to south west France it's the split tailgate! Can pack to the rafters and just pop the top open, so much easier for packing the car up.

I was late to the Touring party, having owned loads of BMWs, mostly coupes and a few saloons, but having started with an E91 330i I liked it enough to upgrade to an E91 335i. I couldn't imagine going back to a saloon now, let alone a coupe.

I agree that the split rear screen is a brilliant design, so simple but so effective. I'm surprised it hasn't caught on across the industry. BMW's hatchbacks (such as the 3-series GT or 5-door 4-series) by comparison seem so clumsy forcing you to open the huge hatch to place a small bag inside.

I've had a few Tourings over the years, all manual, don't care for autos.

My first was my first BMW, a Zinobar Red 325i in 1990.
Then a Montreal Blue E36 328i in 1996.
Next up an Oxford Green II E46 330i in 2002.
Followed by another E46 330d in 2004, Le Mans Blue individual.
Current touring is an E34 M5 in Avus Blue.

My four BMW Tourings have all been 5 series.

1995 E34 540i 6 speed in Orient blue with black leather - 1 of 64 rhd cars
1993 E34 M5 Touring in black, black, blackity black - 1 of 891 cars
2001 E39 Alpina B10 V8, steel grey with silver grey leather - 1 of 14 rhd cars
1995 E34 Alpina B10 4.6, artic silver over ultramarine leather - the only rhd car of only 19 cars ever made

Edit. This thread is rubbish without pics...

540i...

M5...

B10 V8...

B10 4.6...

The 540i got written off by a dozy taxi driver...

The M5 engine developed a knock and the bodywork was shot after a few years on the atlantic cost so was scrapped. The B10 V8 was bought to replace the M5 and is still my daily driver...

The B10 4.6 was bought as the first owner could only find E30 owners who wanted to break it for the engine, so I bought it and did a bit of work on it...

Some lovely cars posted up there.

Our humble 330i does my head in to work on compared to my E92 or our old 1 series, but I really do like it.

I loved my M Sport 320D touring. When my Caterham decided to blow up, I took the 320 to the Nurburgring and after many attempts, managed to get it round in 9.47 by chasing a Ring Hire Suzuki Swift with an instructor on board. It did involve a lot of hitting the kerbs hard, but it survived intact.
Swapped that for a 530D Touring which was an epic car and my son is still using it with about 160k on the clock.
Now, after 6 years in a Range Rover Sport, I’ve just bought a 72 plate M340i x drive Touring and it feels great, but seems to be about the same size as the earlier 5 Series! Hopefully it will be as good as the previous cars.

Love the wheels, are they off the 320si?

If you think the 330i is bad don’t get a 335i touring - the additional turbos and piping mean even less space in the engine bay - my lasting memory of that car was spending an hour taking bits out to do 5 mins work, the spending more than an hour trying to put it all back together
