im looking at a 2015ish 1.5dci diesel with 80-100k miles. Seem to be a bit cheaper than an Octavia or anything from the VAG stable.

What was the reliability like in these does anyone know.

The older Laguna while were comfy and spacious the electrical side of things were horrible and unreliable, don't see too many Renault or anything french on the road from pre 2010 come to that

Did renault sort out their problems from the 00s

The Renault reliability issues seem to be from around 2002 to about 2007. Basically the Laguna 2, Scenic 2 and Megane 2 were a bit of a disaster in phase 1 form. I would say most of the issues had been ironed out by the Phase 2 cars in around 2006ish, and the Mk3 version of all these cars are pretty good.

I would say reliability on the MK3 Megane is very good and they are leagues ahead build quality wise than the MK2.

Obviously expect lots of "French cars are rubbish" because they had a window regulator fail 20 years ago. And buy "German reliability and Teutonic build quality" despite the fact most of these engines suffer timing chain issues.

I would say in that segment the Megane 3 offers the most car for the money. The 1.5 DCi engine has been around for over 20 years now and they are incredibly reliable now.

The same 1.5.DCi that was used by Mercedes in all the A-classes (e.g CLA) and B-classes. biggrin

Yes, the 1.5d is an expensive change, I believe the 1.6d is a chain if it's what goes in the rest of the Nissan/ Renault/ Dacia stable, and at some point one of the smaller petrols was chain driven.

I'm pretty sure the 1.6TcE is the one in the Clio RenaultSport,

Having noted the Dacia bit, if you want cheap, get a Dacia.

The actual last of the line Laguna's were actually very good cars, the Megane is a good option as is the 1.6d Astra.
