Tango in the Night
Discussion
TIN is very 80s which is different from their earlier stuff.
I wasn't about when it happened. But I do like it
Seven Wonders is also good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b4F_ppjnKU

I don't recall any 'bad press' about Tango in the Night.
I've followed and watched Fleetwood Mac since their beginning, ie the early days when they first formed in the late 1960s with Peter Green, up until their (probably) last tour (Wembley 2019 with the new line-up of Finn and Campbell). With Christine sadly passing I think that will be it.
I don't have a favourite LP of any of the various line-ups of the band, I like them all.
Tango was of course their second biggest selling studio album, after Rumours.
Where Tango lost the edge a little was with the live 'Tour' after the album's release: Buckingham decided to leave the band, so came a different line up, with Rick Vito and Billy Burnette taking over for the interim.

Early stuff was Blues, not country don't ever recall them doing anything remotely countryMusic then was all USA or UK, the French had to get our groups to go out there.
This was New Year's Eve in Paris in 1968. Ignore the music, look at the audience!
I'm going to be honest with you but Tango In The Night isn't their greatest work in my view. They were all off doing their solo careers / coke when this was made and it was a comeback of sorts, with great sales but the whole thing is a bit anodyne.
There were at least two Fleetwood Macs - the original Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac who were as popular as the Beatles in their day, and Fleetwood Mac with Buckingham / Nicks / McVie x2 / Mick Fleetwood. This latter iteration had three really good albums, Fleetwood Mac, Rumours, Tusk. All worth a listen.
I can't miss out Peter Green because he was one of the greatest British blues guitar players with monster tone - even BB King said it gave him cold sweats listening to PG.

Was a good album for sure. I still have it on vinyl!
The title track was my favourite too.
Just thought, it’s kind of similar to Frozen Love, on Buckingham Nicks album, before they joined FM.
Saw them a couple of times, Earl’s court, also saw Peter Green solo , at the Fire Station in Windsor, early 2000s?
Sad that Buckingham was fired, wouldn’t bother seeing them now

I’ve followed Fleetwood Mac since Rumours came out. Never bonded with the pre-Buckingham/Nicks version. Tango in the Night is a good album but I prefer Mirage and Time. The live album “The Dance” is, for me, one of the best live albums ever. Its sound quality is outstanding.
Christine McVie’s solo albums are a must-listen too, and Stevie Nick’s solo albums are great too. I subscribe to Tidal so all of these are readily available for listening. Also worth listening to is the 2017 collaboration titled Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie.
The Beeb occasionally show music documentaries and the Fleetwood Mac one is, I think, the best in the series.
Rumours remain the absolute classic, the proof being how often you hear tracks from it still being played on radio stations today

The album 'BuckinghamNicks' recorded before they joined Fleetwood Mac is a must listen for anyone who likes that era of Fleetwood Mac. One of them refuses to allow it to be re-released so you'll have to lookout for it. There are some recordings of them performing it live on Spotify but not the actual studio album. It's well worth tracking it down though. Vinyl only btw, never released on CD.
Everyone knows how good Peter Green was but Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer never get the credit they deserve IMO. Some of Spencers compositions were so authentic it's like they are covering decades old blues numbers except they are his originals. Danny Kirwans playing is also hugely important to that era FM. His playing on 'Oh Well' for example.
A good few years ago now I saw Joe Perry *with the Joe Perry Project) play at the hundred club. They did a great cover of 'Someones going to get their head kicked in tonight' which i wasn't expecting!

I've got the Buckingham Nicks vinyl album, it's excellent. I remember copying mine onto CD for the car many years ago.SAB888 said:

I did the same! It's a 'forgotten' classic IMO. Its a shame one of them won't allow it to be re-released, I can't remember which one of them it is. An impressive line up of musicians playing on it too. neilr said:

Saw them twice, but wouldn’t bother now that he’s not in the band.
