I’m looking to do a lot of travelling next year. A camper an would be a great idea but they are expensive and I don’t fancy buying a van and transforming it. I’m basically planning on using it to travel around the U.K. So I was thinking of something comfortable, automatic with a good size boot. I’ve around £3k to send.

How many people travelling? Just yourself. Yourself and a another?

I'd personally get a Citroen Berlingo and do a quick transformation. Doesn't need to be anything ranch. Remove rear seats, a little wood structure with some plastic storage boxes underneath and then a blowup camping bed.

You'll get some looks in this:

ETA

There's actually quite a lot of larger estates available.

A Merc E class would be comfortable and have plenty of space.

I live Volvo's. An XC70 would allow you do some soft off roading. I had the newer version and it was capable of getting down roads and tracks a normal car couldn't plus driving right down onto beaches was always fun.

The Mazda 5 looks okay. I was also thinking of a 3008. The split folding tailgate would be quite good. Or even a small SUV.
The 3008 is a good option but you'll want to avoid the Prince engines.

I turned one of these into a sort of camper (done it with a few estates), enormous in the back, only downside was headroom. Lovely comfortable cruise, it does like it's petrol though.

Mazda CX-7 or a Subaru Tribeca would be a good shout.

What engine is that? Also I’ve seen a Freelander 2 and an Outlander:

Mazda CX-7 doesn’t look too bad.

It's the 1.6T engine.

If you're travelling you'll want to keep your running/fuel costs sensible none of those above are (I'm assuming this due to your budget) in anyway sensible.

Keep it simple 2.0 N/A, that's not rusting away & go from there, you've had similar advice before so garner all that info & then consider sensible options. smile

I think the 3008 most come with a 1.6 engine. I’m I right in thinking it’s the same one that was in the Mini? The Mazda 5 does look a good buy. I think keeping it Petrol is also a good idea. Less to go wrong.
