I have just been to a friends wedding in Bath and on the way back I found the most incredible road. Now, I think it was the A350 someware between Shaftsbury and Blandford (say it with a dorset accent...Blaaandferd!) Was that road designed by a visionary mad man with the liz in mind?. Hard 90 degree bends seperated by a variety of long and short straights and a few sweeping bends with a 90 degree bend at the end.
If anyone can confirm it, I would be very grateful.
So I didnt fall asleep, I have had 5 red bulls for the drive home. I am so wired, I dont know what to do. I havent been this awake in years. Not looking forward to the come down from this!

guys - it gets better, as that road is a poor second best if you're going to Shaftsbury.
If you going round the bypass, go past the Salibury turn, the next one is signposted Sunrise Business Park. Take that one (technically it is Shaftsbury Lane - I don't think it has a road number). It runs along the top of the hill that the A350 runs along the bottom of - its absolutely tops, v.fast, and doesn't get the traffic. (Go slow on the very last bit into Melbury Abbas as there is an almost single track at the botom of the hill).

Guys,
You are right, this road is "pure magic". Cuts 20 mins out of my journey. Just pure bliss as heavy duty vehicles are prohibited from using this road (tractors etc)
Trying to convince work mates this road really exists. One of them reckons he got stuck behind a quarry lorry but I told him not on the "magic road!!!"
Easily got the ton up the other day, in just a diesel golf!!!! (just before the Compton Abbas turning)

Bobbymed - interesting comments, I remember that road from my youth (I grow up in Shaftesbury) and can remember a few hairy moments hurtling along it in my MGA. I had my big end blow there once although that was from a smashing bit of crumpet rather than a few too many revs. It was a favourite for courting a lady and I can certainly attest to it being "magic".
I couldn't agree more, this road is a hell of a good drive, particularly when you have it to yourself. However, take lots of care in the wooded section by the Iwerne Minster turning as I've seen more than one car hit a deer. I drive this road regularly and treat it with the utmost respect as it has a high accident rate.Take care.
